Heeey How is Vancouver so far? I'm not getting used to the cold even though its not reaaally cold yet but still. brrrr. Work is boring, oh well but they gave me the whole month Feb. off to travel to the westcoast, any chance for a couch ;-)

isnt it ironic that his hopeful songs are covers?? "That's All I Ask" sounds so hopeful, but its just a cover. all his own songs are so sad and melancholic... i love driving to Lilac Wine... its so sad, and when the sky is gray like it is recently, it reflects that sense of longing, the need to have that wine near you... i would love to find true lilac wine, and drink it whilst listening to the whole Grace album. :) Kerouac does make your mind wander... wander to big and beautiful things beyond what we see...

i totally agree with you about that. Kerouac has made me feel so alive and submerged in his world of blurred sight and bright light, drunkenness and benzedrine, he's made me feel amazing, like the first time i heard Jeff Buckley and dancing wildly in the dark nite... thats one of my favorite passages too! along with another few passages, that one struck me and played a tune on my heartstrings...

"...I realized that I had died and been reborn numberless times but just didn't remember because the transitions from life to death and back are so ghostly easy, a magical action for naught, like falling asleep and waking up again a million times, the utter casualness and deep ignorance of it." and im Youtubing it as we speak... it does have that melancholy that "Lilac Wine" possesses... with a ghostly woman's voice...

youre right on that, but its probably the most accessible of all his stuff. i do know that passage though; "And for just a moment I had reached the point of ecstasy that I always wanted to reach, which was the complete step across chronological time into timeless shadows, and wonderment in the bleakness of the mortal realm, and the sensation of death kicking at my heels to move on, with a phantom dogging its own heels, and myself hurrying to a plank where all the angels dove off and flew into the holy void of uncreated emptiness, the potent and inconceivable radiancies shining in bright Mind Essence, innumerable lotus-lands falling open in the magic mothswarm of heaven. I could hear an indescribable seething roar which wasn't in my ear but everywhere and had nothing to do with sounds...

Thanks :) I like every Birthday Party album I heard, but I would go with The John Peel Sessions. That has more of their experimental, post-punk sounding stuff, which it seems like you would like. There's so many good songs by them it's hard to pick just one, but my favorite song is Deep in the Woods

Sobre mim

Round the squares huddled in storms
Some laughing, some just shapeless forms
Sidewalk scenes and black limousines
Some living, some standing alone
