I've had a music blog for a little under a year. The posts vary from pop punk to death metal to experimental jungle beats. Check it out. I'm also looking for new authors if anybody is interested.

I am a student at Arizona State University. I live in Tempe, Arizona and am very involved with various music scenes here in the Phoenix metropolitan area. There are CONSTANTLY new bands coming out. Here is a list of some bands I have been enjoying that are from the area:


French Quarter - Stephen Steinbrink is French Quarter. Stephen has made a name from himself in Phoenix playing house shows barefoot and all. Simple, melodic and beautiful folk music accompanied by his soft amazing singing.

Andrew Jackson Jihad - I first heard of this band when I was a sophomore in high school. A girl I knew through our high school orchestra was dating this nerdy dude (Sean) from this band. Not only was he nerdy, but Sean ended up being one of the coolest dudes in this Phoenix scene writing and playing some of the most creative and entertaining music out here in our scene. I salute you Andrew Jackson Jihad!

Hour of the Wolf - When I was in high school I used to see Life In Pictures play with bands like Darkest Hour and Where Eagles Dare. After they broke up, 4/5 members from Life In Pictures went on to focus on Hour of the Wolf. This band without a doubt in my mind is what the Phoenix hardcore and punk scene needed. They've been compared to both Misfits and Hot Snakes. Not bad in my book!

Parkway Wretch - Some of my very good friends playing dirty pop punk with gritty old man vocals. These guys have been playing for over ten year and have often been compared to Crimpshrine and old school American Steel.

Fuck You Ups - Some of the dirtiest, most ridiculous and most rockin punk music I have ever heard. Songs about killing you, beating you up, hitting you with bats, sniping people AHH.

Slut Sister - If you want to bang your head a lot to some sludgey stoner Black Sabbath influenced metal then this is the band for you.

Blues - They call themselves 'botch n roll' and they absolutely come nothing short of that. Botch influenced hardcore rock n roll from Tucson, Arizona.

the wongs - Dirty Garage Rock. These guys are originally from Yuma. I'm not sure where they are located now, but they play in Phoenix often.

Digital Leather - Electro synth punk one man band. Very good live show. Sometimes he plays with members of the wongs, The Reatards and etc.

Get Destroyed - 4 piece power violence. These guys just recently put out their first release on 625 records. Pissed off power violence in the vein of bands like Infest.

landmine marathon - Female fronted grind/metal band currently working with Level Plane Records. Ex members of Unruh, Financial Panther, and Osama Bin Sars.

Think Fast - Pissed off DIY hardcore punk rock. They recently released a split 7" with Fatality.

11/04/07 - The Lawrence Arms, American Steel, & Sundowner will all be performing at The Clubhouse in Tempe!
11/07/07 - My band, Heatstroke, will be opening up for MDC & Citizen Fish at The Sets in Tempe!
111/09/07 - The Hold Steady will be performing at The Marquee Theater in Tempe!
11/17/07 - Suicidal Tendencies & Municipal Waste will be performing at the Rialto Theater in Tucson!

Bright Eyes - I will admit that Desaparacidos was great. I was very attracted to that band because of their very abrasive bass driven approach to rock(wtf/indie?) music with very thought provoking lyrics. Then comes Bright Eyes - this guy's neurosis factor gives him extra cool points for all of these dumbasses. Honestly - this guy recycles so much of his own bullshit album after album. Same lyrics, same old dumb songs over and over. I wonder how many chords he can play. Maybe if he quit writing songs about how sad he is he might stop being so sad because his music is so horrible!

The Mars Volta - Seriously get over it. Who gives a shit what member of Golden plays in this band or how thick Omar's glasses are. These guys are all great musicians, but these hipster douche bags need to eat some mushrooms, stare at some Max Ernst art, and trip at Laser Floyd before they start begging their pops for that awesome Orange tone that Rodriguez-Lopez came all over.

Hot Water Music - this band has absolutely no talent or emotion.

The Fall of Troy - The first time I heard this band I was pretty interested. After two albums of the same garbage and witnessing one live show... What a dick. Seriously, listen to the way this guy plays the guitar. Give me some serious room to breath or jerk off or something. I also could have sworn that their bass player was wearing a San Antonio Spurs jersey in their new music video, but I turned my head and he was wearing a striped pink shirt... MAN! Oh and another thing- I paid like 20 bucks to see Maps and Atlases open up for your shitty band. You are gay.

Fear Before the March of Flames - Art Damage was a really good album guys! Do that again :)

Between the Buried and Me - I have a friend who really really liked this band when they were first making a name for themselves around The Silent Circus era. Whatever. I wasn't really very interested in them to begin with. Alaska came out and still didn't really spark any interest. Colors came out only a few weeks ago and oh my goodness. This is surprisingly one of my favorite records for 2007 so far. There are still some hardcore breakdowns and monotonous metalcore riffs I could do without, but since when did these guys start listening to Dream Theater? I hear chunks of Opeth during their softer vocal harmonies and an often similarity to Estradasphere's Buck Fever. This is serious guys. I'm super serial!
