The Black Keys and The Darkness Live

Th weekend before was treated to a wonderful two days of live music - The Black Keys supported by Bob Evans on Friday night, and The Darkness supported by After The Fall on Saturday night.

Both shows were un-friggen-belivable. The Keys was a pretty intimate gig, and we were maybe 2 metres from Patrick on the drums. The whole shebang went off, they have such a great sound for a two piece. You can find my best photos from the night here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/dk13/sets/72057594101499963/ - probably my best band photos ever.

Amazed to find out later by coincidence that some of the classic Black Keys tracks were actually covers…

Have Love Will Travel vs Have Love Will Travel

She Said, She Said vs She Said, She Said

Grown So Ugly vs I've Grown So Ugly

… among others. They really make the songs their own.

Oh and Bobby Evans wasn't bad either

Saturday night, disappointed at the lack of crowd excitement for After the Fall. They were most impressive in their short set.

As for The Darkness, they were superb. Only disappointments were (relative) lack of costume changes from Justin Hawkins (would've loved to have seen the Pirate Hat) and the absence of , as seen in the Girlfriend video.

As with the Black Keys, I was surprised at just how close we were, though obviously not as close as to the Keys, but close enough for my brother to catch Dan Hawkins' pick.

And oh my goodness, how awesome is Richie Edwards, the new Bass Player. He can sing like Bon Scott, and played not only his bass, but also a guitar and a electronic keyboardy thing.

Two thumbs up to both nights :)
