k, so i got bored and thought i'd try and come up with my 5 favourite albums of all time. It's in no order..

GZA - Liquid Swords
Nas - Illmatic
Common - Resurrection
Wu Tang - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Ras Kass - Soul On Ice

Obviously this list changes quite a lot and i found it hard leaving out some albums (especially a couple of Tribe Called Quest albums), but this was the best i could come up with.

Let me know what you think and let me know what your top 5 are too

suprised to see soul on ice there since the beats are... well, mostly bad. besides that regular list. I have only one album from there in my list: 1. Mobb Deep - Infamous 2. Biggie - Ready to Die 3. Ice Cube - Amerikkka's most wanted 4. Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle 5. Nas - Illmatic my list is boringly normal :(

both nice lists, but da-swordsman i definitely prefer 4,5,6 to roots of evil, but still good album. as for the beats on soul on ice, i like them, the other 4 albums on the list are better produced albums but the lyrics on soul on ice got it on the list

good beats: anything goes, marinatin, drama, the evil that men do, miami life (5) ok beats: reelishymn (1) bad beats: the rest (7) good 38%, ok 8% and bad 54% conclusion: bad beats > good beats, but it's still a 3.5 album. yeah, that's how I feel

Really? 3.5? I love most the beats on that album and like da swordsman says, they fit ras kass' on that album perfectly. In your list of 'good beats' you didn't even list my favourite beat, etc. But it's all good, opinions right

In some way this is the wrong question to ask about a form that is still driven by singles -- on internet radio, on the dance floor and on the ipod. But there are albs that stand up as albs De La Soul, 3 Feet High and Rising Dr. Dre, The Chronic Raekwon, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Nas, Illmatic Del Tha Funky Homosapien, I Wish My Brother George Was Here Missing something from the last ten years. That's a problem w/ da list and not hip hop, contrary to what Nas sez. I also think there has been some great. Missing instro albs and also missing mixtapes, which take the alb as form to another level. Maybe the next thread is singles. And the next is mixtapes. And the next is in the last 10 years etc. P E A C E
