Power Pop

I've been listening to power pop a lot recently. It's a suprisingly interesting genre. I really catagorize it as more... admirable pop? Generally, it seems to have a little more substance to it. Now, I don't dislike pop music, just usually not my cup 'o tea.

Anyways, here are some of the recent bands I've been listening to, that really range from power pop to an alternative pop sound. If you have any other recommendations, reply.

I'm sick of people hating on other's musical opinions because they don't fit with their own image of good. Music is one of the few subjects where someone can be despised based solely on their favorite tunes. It's silly. I don't harrass someone for eating squash just because I'm not a fan of it.

All music is worthwhile, and good, in my mind -- if it makes someone happy, then I support it.

BLAH.

Gigantour was incredible. Me and my buds got there at around 4:00. The Smashup had just started playing their lame generic metal, I think we missed The Sanctity since they didn't play later in the day.

Most of the openers did alright, Into Eternity's vocalist (who's name slips my mind at the moment) was knocking shit out the fucking park.

Crap really went crazy when Overkill came. First real mosh pit started. Shit's pretty crazy, when someone tears out some grass form the lawn, and starts chucking hunks of mud with grass in it. Before you know it, it's a fucking dirt war. The entire center of the lawn becomes a battlefield. Security busted some people, but eventually gave up.

After Overkill, Arch Enemy came on and played fucking incredible. I was far back on the lawn when they were playing, and I wasn't really into it. But, they played good.

Finally, Opeth came on the stage, and blew me away.
Their set:

Incredible, I was by myself headbanging, since my friends really hadn't heard of the band. They played fucking great. Besides from the LoG fans bitching, it was the greatest musical experience for me.

After that, I bought my second Opeth shirt. And Lamb of God came on.

Now, I don't like Lamb of God -- listening to breakdowns in my room isn't the funnest thing -- but fuck, they put on an amazing show. I look over and like 10 million people just randomly appear. It was crowded and shit was insane.

Megadeth comes on an hour or so later, and tears shit up. At this point I'm nearly dead, but I'm still pumped as fuck. They played incredible.

All the bands played incredible.

Great fuckin' show.
