• Sayonara for now!

    Nov 8 2007, 21h20

I'm going to be canceling my interweb soon for various reasons, so I won't be doing any scrobbling until after the holidays. I'll still visit occasionally from other computers, maybe try out the wireless at Coffee Beanery. :) But probably won't be playing much music there. :(
  • Random neurons firing

I was just recently listening to TocarIf I Had A Rocket Launcher, one of my all-time favorite rocket-launcher-referencing songs . For some reason, it brought to mind a completely different song -- TocarHey Nineteen -- which is becoming more and more about me as the years pass by. I think it's weird the way our minds work; it's probably just the dark tone and mellow beat of those songs that connect them in my mind but I like the thought there's a deeper resonance between them. Perhaps I have a secret yearning to use a rocket launcher on some 19-year-old...
  • Bird on a Wire

Toby Lightman is one of my new favorite artists. She writes bluesy, singer/songwriter-type songs with a pop/alt-country/dance feel to them -- so, yes, hard to categorize. Her voice reminds me a bit of a cross between Melissa Etheridge and Kelly Clarkson, maybe a tad thinner than their's, but whenever I listen to the CD I keep thinking Anastacia would be perfect for these songs. On Bird on a Wire, "Round & Round" and "Overflowing" particularly have that pop-blues-jazz feel to them that I associate with Anastacia.
  • Acoustic Brazil

Acoustic Brazil is a Putumayo compilation of the kind of music you might hear strolling down a street in Rio or Sao Paolo. This is heavily bossa nova but there's a bit of tropicalia and MPB too. It has Aquele Frevo Axe which is one of my favorite Gal Costa songs. It also has some artists who are new to US listeners - 'specially Lucas Santtana who has one of those bedroom voices. *sigh* ;-)
  • You Are Fading

TocarYou Are Fading is one of those songs that start out relatively tame but gradually build throughout. A little droney but in a good tension-building way, not in a boring way at all. And I love the guitar at the end. Editors are apparently one of those up-and-coming Brit bands that I've never heard of; they were at Lollapalooza this year. And since I'd never heard of them, I missed them at Magic Stick here in Detroit. I've listened to TocarMunich too and I like that, more conventionally rock. And TocarAll Sparks - this reminds me a lot of The Doors.
  • Kelly

TocarKelly: Van She's Kelly is very infectious, lots of fun in an 80's dance pop kind of way. I also like their TocarMission which is on the list at their myspace. It's a little tougher, rockier. I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the EP.
  • Mexico

This is a song I dl'd from EW by Panda & Angel. I like this one, so it's a keeper. Kind of laid back almost to the point of "why bother?" but repeatable. It reminds me of someone else, don't know who. I have no idea about music genres so if you guys can give me a hint let me know! :-)

I think I'm already going to have start whittling down. I just started uploading my CDs and I'm already over 5 gigs. Plus I'm downloading free stuff from EW and other sites that I don't even have time to listen to. So time to start cutting away the dead brush!
  • Pink's I'm Not Dead

    Ago 25 2006, 5h24

I just realized that every track I've heard off Pink's CD so far is great. I've got my computer on shuffle and every time it hits on her I think to my self "Self, I like that song. Who the heck is it?" -- and it turns out to be Pink. Not that it doesn't sound like Pink, it's just unexpected that every single track I've heard should be so good.
  • And what happens?

Diso finds me an mp3 of Fire in the Morning! Today has been pretty weird, but altogether pretty darned nice. :-D
