The gray area of 'genre'

Now, I'm not terribly big on rock, but quite a few of my absolute favourite songs are from that genre. Here is a (somewhat) complete list of them:

1. Audioslave - Cochise
I can remember when this song came out. At the time, I was working in my hometown as a maid for a dive motel. Not the best job I've ever had, but at least my boss left me to my work, which meant I could tune the tv to muchmusic and rock out as i cleaned. As for the song, it is like nothing else I listen to. But, for some reason, I've never forgotten about it.

2. Foo Fighters - The Pretender
This song gets me hyped up. So much so that I very rarely play it at night. And irregardless of how many times I've heard it in the last little while, I still love it. This is one of those songs that will never get old.

3. Incubus - Certain Shade of Green
Not too long ago, I was a fan of the post-"Make Yourself" Incubus, what may be considered as the "less rock" Incubus. That is, until I started to listen to some of the stuff from S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and now this track is one of my favourites. Though I do still like the new Incubus material as well.

4. Jeff Buckley - Grace and Lover, You Should've Come Over
I can't even choose between these two. They're both golden. Even though I'm not quite sure if Buckley can be considered rock, these songs are worth a mention. There will never ever be anything like this again.

5. Our Lady Peace - Clumsy
A classic '90s tune…which is actually far before when I started to pay attention to "good" music. So it can be surprising that I like this song so much. But I do. Makes me wish I wouldn't have been so in love with Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys back then. (it hurts to admit that)

6. Rufus Wainwright - Go or Go Ahead
Again, not really sure if this is rock or not. But this song is epic. There is no other word to describe it. I have to give props to my cousin for introducing me to this song. (the same cousin that introduced me to Hawksley Workman)

7. Kasabian - Fast Fuse
A genius band. A rocking song.

8. Mute Math - Typical
Awesome video + Awesome song = Unforgettable. Now I just need to see them live. Then I'll be satisfied.

9. Hawksley Workman
I can't even pick a song. That's how much I love this guy. Glad he's Canadian. Glad he loves to play the city I live in so often.
Well, come to think of it, maybe I can narrow it down a little. I can pick one song from each album.

Almost a Full Moon - A House or Maybe a Boat
Before We Were Security Guards - Canadian Motorcycle Gangs
For Him and the Girls - Paper Shoes
(Last Night We Were) The Delicious Wolves - No Beginning No End/Striptease/Dirty and True
Lover/Fighter - Smoke Baby/Ilfracombe
My Toothless Little Beauties - God Decides
Puppy (A Boy's Truly Rough) - Singing Like a Bird
Treeful of Starling - When These Mountains Were the Seashore
