Every single time i hear the term "rockstar", Marc Bolan's name comes to my mind. Never a queerish look was cooler -I'm sorry for Thunders, Sylvain and Johansen, Marc is my favourite, and Brit accent's always been sexier than the American one-.
Besides my absurd ramblings about androgynous looking, what really makes me love Marc is his talent to make unforgetable melodies with just 4 power chords and a simple humming. Everything sounds fluent and natural. While listening to T.Rex you could even think writing a catchy tune is an easy job. That's exactly what a good pop song should always be, and I'm sure Marc knew it.
Even another brilliant guy like David Bowie needed Mick Ronson's craft to write his best efforts: I'm sure "The Man Who Sold The World", "Hunky Dory" or "The Rise and Fall of …" would have never been masterpieces without Mick's contribution. It's strange, life's strange :), but each time I listen to Bowie I feel bad for Marc, because I've always thought he was at least as talented as Bowie, and never got the recognition he deserved. IMHO, T.Rex's albums like The Slider, Electric Warrior or Tanx have no reason to envy Bowie's classics.
I've got a question for you, patient reader: Am I the only one who finds several similarities between Marc and Andrew Wood, lead singer of Mother Love Bone?? The way they sang, the sensibility, the catchy choruses, the sensuality, even the pose…
30 years after his death, Marc's songs still sound fresh.
"I drive a Rolls Royce
Cause it`s good for my voice",
says Marc Bolan on Children of The Revolution.
If you're not a rockstar you're not allowed to write that rhyme. Enough said :)
