just for fun, I've decided to make a list of my top 10 tech metal albums. it's not a "best of" list, if only for my musical taste; but may be helpful to those seeking outstanding records in this genre. in fact, there's a lot of undisputed classics here.
as my ears tends more to death metal than traditional metal, there's always some level of brutality involved. and the more complex, the better.

• Suffocation - Suffocation (2006)

Techwankery. Gorguts and Cryptopsy were good though, and you picked the wrong Suffocation album. For some good, complex death metal, those would be my pick (in no order): Monstrosity, Demilich, Deeds of Flesh, mid-era Immolation, Atheist, demo Cynic, the aforementionned Gorguts, Cryptopsy and Suffocation and maybe something like Acerbus, Capharnaum or Martyr. -

People call Meshuggah technical because of the complexity of their rhythms and polyrhythms. Try strumming to the song "Bleed", and see if your hand doesn't fall off.

Agree that Onset is better than Epitaph! Nothing and Chaosphere are my fav Meshuggah albums. I think you missed some great groups like Atheist, Cynic, Alarum and Hate Eternal. -

thanks a lot for your comments and additions. Atheist and Cynic are definitely great but I don't listen to them very often, so I left them aside in favor of bands that are more present in my playlists throughout time.
I also forgot !TOOH!, major mistake. "Pod Vladou Bice" is beyond awesome. -

great list. only epitaph>>onset, imho. and i agree that decapitated could be somewhere in the list, but i prefer organic hallucinosis...
