You're definitely right about the music. If they were still making music with the same sound as, say, Bites, or even Too Dark Park, I would've gotten bored with them a long time ago. And of course when you work with other musicians, etc, it influences your sound. For me it's always been BECAUSE they're always changing and evolving that's kept me buying records- like you said, I look forward to every new release because I never know what to expect. Ditto with the live show. I've seen them 7 times on 6 different tours, and it's been wildly different every time. I love that. I saw Pink Floydd once, and they had a pretty amazing stage show, but in terms of creativity I'd say SP's stage show is worlds beyond them. (I did hate seeing William Morrison vamping it up with his guitar on TGWOTR though... he seemed unnecessary. Like, we all new he wasn't playing the guitar riffs on Tin Omen). and yeah, Dimebag Darrell is another overrated dead guy for sure- not that I thought Dwayne was of course

Exactly. And you can't expect a band to lose a member, go separate ways for 8 years, then come back and make a record as if only a year had gone by since the last one. And while I'd never underestimate Goettel's role in the band, I think alot of people overestimate it. He was a great musician and definitely played a big role in the music-making process, but to suggest they aren't really SP without him is ridiculous. He wasn't there in the beginning, and he won't be there at the end either, sad but true. I had enormous respect for the man, but I still think he's been put on a pedestal in much the same way as Kurt Cobain or any other musician who died before their time. Nobody was calling Cobain a genius when he was alive, and I'll bet if he hadn't blown his brains out no one ever would have called him one.

hahaha I know. I get that not every album is for everybody. I just don't get the shit these people spout sometimes. TGWOTR is the new Rabies apparently. I don't know why I let it bother me, or why I always feel compelled to react. I just can't help myself. :)
