Out 14 2014, 21h00
Dez 31 2012, 23h11Well, since one of the only two things I give a serious shit about is music, I feel it my duty to write up a blog on my scrobbles for the entire spectrum of no one to read and let my thoughts float out in the netherspaces of the interwebs.
I can't say it's been any sort of "epic" year for me musically, because I would say that every year like a broken record. It was a year and much was discovered and loved and cherished. I am zehr thankful for the catalogue of artists I have discovered this year through radio, Pandora at work and sexy scrobble friends. This list includes Passion Pit, Starfucker, Pinback, Gotye, Of Monsters and Men, We Are Scientists, The Temper Trap, Japandroids, The Dandy Warhols, Strange Talk, Cut Copy, The Silent Comedy, Spoon, M83, The Gaslight Anthem, and the single most important one to me, Modest Mouse.
Good lord of fuck, I was a complete moron. Pretty sure everyone knows who Modest Mouse is, no thanks to Float On all those years ago, and if not the name of the band or track, you knew the tune. If I wasn't such an ignorant little shit I probably would have loved MM much earlier. I had held a grudge against them ever since Neighborfucker proclaimed they were his favorite band. So I said fuck that kid and fuck that band, my life is sad, wah wah boo boo, cry my river.
Now I cannot stop listening to Modest Mouse. We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank has even inspired my idea for a novel, which hasn't resulted to much more than a character map, but that's a different story.
I'm also thankful for all the great bands I've gotten to see live. Even though I punkassbitched it out of going to Lollapalooza like a true dick massager, I still managed to see Mutemath, Bombay Bicycle Club, Passion Pit, Bloc Party, Silversun Pickups and Cloud Nothings, The Heavy and The Silent Comedy, The Naked and Famous and probably some other bands that I can't remember because I was drunk. Although, my life will never actually be complete until I see Electric Six.
Now the hard part - compiling the cliché top ten for albums of 2012. I will restrict this to albums released this year because otherwise it would be a clusterfuck of too many years too far gone.
I didn't think this would be so tough, but, shit on dicks. Here it is anyways, with honorable mentions to Loma Vista, Beacon and Come of Age.
10. Happy To You
8. Lost Songs
4. Safe Travels
3. Picture Show
2. Neck Of The Woods
1. Celebration Rock
I should note that The 2nd Law and Battle Born were two albums I was looking forward to and were ultimately disappointing. Not saying there's nothing good on either, but I definitely lost my pre-music erection after hearing about 15 seconds on each record.
I don't know what the hell else to tell you, so here's my scrobblecharts top 20 artists for the year.

Jun 7 2012, 19h54I always get extremely excited for new summer jams, especially this year. So many good artists are yet to come, and so many fantastic albums exist already. So, let's get started on this thing that no one will read.
"Holy tits," I exclaimed when I heard Neck Of The Woods by Silversun Pickups. I have always loved this group, but the new album refines their sound and elevates it. Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings), the lead-off single, has been growing on me recently, but as a whole in the album I find it one, well, the only low point on the album. The descending tracks of Busy Bees and Here We Are (Chancer) are personal favorites of mine, with the latter being the slowest tempo of the album. It oozes a dark mood than instantly grasped at me.
I think Neon Trees have put out an amazing album with Picture Show. Anyone looking for another Animal from the self-titled debut will likely be disappointed, but if you have any knack for a slick 80's feel (That bassline in Trust must have been on the cutting room floor of a New Order recording session), this album is up your alley. Tyler Glenn has an amazing range as a vocalist. Shoot me in the face if it's offensive, but he conjures up some Michael Jackson moments in Weekend, and on the flip-side sounds like a completely different person in Teenage Sounds. Very much matured from their first album and definitely near the top of my albums so far this half.
Synthetica is another beautiful album. As this is still fairly new I don't have much to comment specifically besides it has been fantastic thusfar. Metric will also be on my finishing list this year.
God, do I love Jukebox the Ghost and it's a shame no one knows who the fuck they are. I've been playing Oh, Emily repeatedly since they released it, and having just collected the new Safe Travels, I'm fairly certain I will fall in love with this, too. One listen and I can tell it's a beauty. Not as instantly grasping as Everything Under The Sun, but a few more listens and I'll be singing at the top of my lungs as terribly as I can.
I think Miike Snow has a major issue that they need to resolve. The music is beautiful, but I sometimes don't get the same passion as the backbeat from the vocals. Paddling Out makes me dance like a fool, in public and otherwise, but as a overall composition, Happy To You definitely has its major pitfalls that hopefully the band can address, as I don't see the majority of the album gaining them much of an extended fan base.
I have loved The Hives for way too long of a time, but I can't help but feel slightly disappointed by Lex Hives. Maybe because it's been five years since they released a proper album. Maybe my tastes have matured over time. I don't really know what it is, actually. I don't hate the album, but I definitely do not love it. Thankfully it's a rather compact 30-some minutes, as additional tracks could have solidified a huge letdown.
I must also comment that I think fun. had a very ambitious record, combining their pop sensibilities with large hip-hop elements and an excessive-bordering-annoying usage of autotune, but nonetheless I enjoy the record as a whole for it's boldness and it stands out against most modern music. If I hear We Are Young again though I am going to cut my dick off and throw it into traffic.
Those have been the stand-outs so far for me. If there's anything I've missed out on, let me know, fellow scrobble junkies that probably won't take the time to read my messy opinion.
As for the rest of the year to come, I'm excited and more so intrigued.
Muse just posted a preview of their new album The 2nd Law, and it's sounds... pretty dubstep. I don't know. I'm speechless, kind of. I enjoy bits of the genre here and there, but I don't think I want to go through Muse for dubstep. At least I can say I'm looking forward to checking out what the hell it's all about.
I am quite surprised to hear The Vaccines are already coming out with a new album, seeing as they debuted in 2011. That's how it should be for new bands. They really came out with a bang and hopefully they can keep that streak going with fresh new material quickly.
I'm also looking forward to hearing new albums from Passion Pit, Mumford & Sons and Baroness. Again, if there's anything else I'm severely missing out on, let me know PLEEEEEEEEAAAAAASSSEEEE.
Thanks for taking the time to maybe give a shit about my opinion on 2012's musical landscape. Happy scrobblings.
