You can only have one image. As far as the image size goes, it will have two sizes, the preview size that you see on like shoutboxes and shit, and then the size that you see on your profile. Both are cropped to fit a certain file size limit. For alerts I don't think it shows anything on the homepage as far as like new journal posts and stuff, most of my last.fm alerts come from my email. In terms of like meeting people you've got the neighbor feature which shows you people with similar tastes to you, then there's groups you can join for people with similar interests and what not. As far as music that's streamable off last.fm Sometimes they can only upload previews because of certain deals with record labels. Weird thing about previews though is sometimes it will play you a preview track in the last.fm client but when you go to the songs page you can only listen to the clip, dunno wtf that's about.
