ooh, you put it so well ^^! the studies I do never go that deep: the theoretical stuff we see is more focused on the language of film (montage, imagery) and the media (and how it (ab)uses this). very much an eye opener, because there's, just like language, so much more to watching the telly than you'd think. apart from that, there's also a lot of focus on the theories of narratology; (which i thought was very interesting, because, again, there's more to storytelling than one would think) and some filosophy and semiotics as well. but the biggest part of the studies is the writing itself, because the programme is far more practical than theoretical, in the end. which is why i do it, and love it, because i'm not much of a "study person",i prefer getting busy ^^ so we get to write stuff all the time, which is nice:)there's a bit of everything, but i prefer scripts for film and the occasional piece of prose ... it gets pretty busy most of the time, but i love doing it, so that's allright :)

that's cool! he whole language thingie interests, fascinates, me as well, because there's so much more to it than one would think at first glance. especially where words come from, how language evolves, etc (damn, I wish my english was better, now I sound like an ass ... oh well). I do film studies - which is quite bizarre, because in Belgium - a country that hardly produces a dozen films a year - there are about 8 or 9 film schools. But i'm doing the writing programma - screenplays for film, tv, theatre (heck, even radio) - which is neat because a) no one here is (or wants to be) a screenwriter and b) I also get some of the literature/linguistic stuff you do. I know I'll never get famous, cos no one gives a fuck about the writer of the film - but i'll try anyways! ^^ I'm sure Lou would approve ;p

Krakow sounds interesting (adds to places-to-see-list)! Well, there's still some time to have things sorted out befor the trip (heck, actually i'm not even sure when i'll be doing it. could be this winter, could be next summer); i'm sure everything will be just fine ^^ philology, eh? what exactly is it that you do then (and what do you love about it)? it's got sth to do with old languages and literature, right (i think ^^)?

oh, i'm fine :) life's turning out pretty well for quite a while now. and being busy is nice, as long as it's the kind that makes you feel creative; not the one that gives you a nervous breakdown ;) what have you been up to, then? school projects? doing a world tour with your highly succesful band? opening up your own Factory? by the way, I've been thinking of going to Poland next year (to see at least Warszaw and Auschwitz), but someone told me that Poles don't really speak English that well (as opposed to countries that have a higher rate of tourism, I guess). Actually, he even told me that without a local, you'd probably end up either lost or not seeing the interesting places. is this true? Is my fate to wander aimlessly in this exotic country of yours? ;)

hey, it's been quite a while, hasn't it? :) anyways, Fear and Music are, IMO, his two best, so you started out fine! Apart from those, check out "Fragments of a Rainy Season" - a beautiful live record: just him and the piano (sometimes guitar). For some poppy greatness, get "Paris 1919(at least check out the title track)", for punky, screamy greatness, get "Sabotage" (another live one). cheers!

Sobre mim

Dziś dostałem b. ciekawy duży list od Ojca. (Jakie ładne O się udało!) Nie posyłam, bo sama tu przeczytasz. Piszę i rysuję. Całuję i tak dalej.
Twój NP Witk.

O'er seas that have no beaches
To end their waves upon,
I floated with twelve peaches,
A sofa and a swan.

The blunt waves crashed above us
The sharp waves burst around,
There was no one to love us,
No hope of being found -

Where, on the notched horizon
So endlessly a-drip,
I saw all of a sudden
No sign of any ship.

“I have deliberately killed my senses — I have deliberately died — in order to go on with the outward form of living.” TSE

So here I am, in the middle way, having had twenty years—
Twenty years largely wasted, the years of l'entre deux guerres
Trying to use words, and every attempt
Is a wholly new start, and a different kind of failure
Because one has only learnt to get the better of words
For the thing one no longer has to say, or the way in which
One is no longer disposed to say it. And so each venture
Is a new beginning, a raid on the inarticulate
With shabby equipment always deteriorating
In the general mess of imprecision of feeling,
Undisciplined squads of emotion.
