  • 2013 Year In Review

    Dez 31 2013, 22h14

2013 has had its ups and downs, like every year, but it was personally a good year. And here's a list of the music that was the soundtrack to it.

    Top 5 new discoveries:
    1. Aleksander With (449 plays)
I was actually looking for someone named Aleksander's music just because I like the name. I found Aleksander With, he has some great songs and he's become one of my favourite artists. Songs I'd recommend: So Real, So Right, How About, and Worth It (feat. Lene Marlin).

    2. a-ha (197 plays)
Ok, I know this band is nothing new, but I actually started paying attention to them this year. Everybody's heard "Take On Me", and that was really the only song I knew up until November. I was pleasantly surprised by their work. "Take On Me" is very different from their other songs and while it's good, I'd recommend that you listen to I Wish I Cared, Crying In The Rain, I've Been Losing You & And You Tell Me if you haven't yet.

    3. Morten Harket (111 plays)
Well, you know where this came from. I had to listen to his solo work. Again, another pleasant surprise. It's hard to find a guy whose solo career is as good as his band. He's solo music is different from a-ha, but it is still amazing. If you don't believe me, listen to Quiet, Spanish Steps and Lightning.

    4. Roberto Bellarosa (100 plays)
Eurovision aside, I was intrigued by this guy. The song "Love Kills" is good, but if you listen to his album, you'll see that's not really his style. He might go there in the future though. If you didn't like "Love Kills", forget it, give him a second chance and listen to Apprends-moi, Le coup de soleil and Je Crois.

    5. Erik Grönwall & H.E.A.T. (101 & 89 plays)
Spotify's to blame for this. Spotify became available in Argentina just a few months ago, and Erik Grönwall was one of the first recommendations. Yes, he won Swedish Idol. No, he's not bad. He's really good, he can actually sing. And after releasing two solo albums, he joined the band H.E.A.T., a melodic hard rock band, which is also pretty damn good. Songs I'd recommend: Stay, Higher, Take Me On by Erik; and Falling Down, It's all about tonight, The One and Only by H.E.A.T.

    Top 5 best new songs:
    1. Ever Enough by A Rocket to the Moon
    2. Apprends-moi by Roberto Bellarosa
    3. I Wish I Cared by a-ha
    4. Worth It (feat. Lene Marlin) by Aleksander With
    5. Quiet by Morten Harket

Most Played Artist: The Saturdays (492 plays), followed by Aleksander With (449 plays) and Britney Spears (307plays)
Most Played Song: Wildfire by The Saturdays (38 plays).
  • 3 Years!

    Out 10 2012, 12h36

Wow. Today it's been 3 years since I joined Last.fm.
Last.fm's really changed my life. I have always loved music and this website has made that love grow in a way I never believed a website could. In these past 3 years and thanks to last.fm I discovered some great bands, and made some really good friends.
At first I didn't even know how it worked, I know it's not rocket science, but I just wondered: ok, I listen to music and so what? Of course back then I didn't expect to listen to as many bands as I do now. The experiences I'd had with websites recommending music based on "my taste" were awful, so I certainly didn't expect all the good recommendations last.fm had for me, the great radio playlists (which I hear are about to get even better). This might sound weird, but I actually enjoy last.fm's stats too (to the point of becoming kind of addicted to them). I find myself trying to guess which artists will make it to next month's top artists list, which song will be this week's top track, which artist will hit 1000 scrobbles next. It's really silly, I know, but it's my guilty pleasure.
I remember 2 or 3 months after having joined this website, I had about 150 artists on my library and I would see other people's profiles with more than 500 artists and think "I'm never gonna have that many artists on my library". Well, I'm somewhere near 1000 today, which I will say, I consider to be a small number, but I know soon there'll be many more.
My last.fm profile might not be an exact reflection of my music taste since I can only scrobble from my computer, but it's pretty accurate. If you've seen my profile you know I have no problem going from Britney Spears to Within Temptation to Armin van Buuren to John Mayer to Carrie Underwood to Augustana to Thomas Godoj to some band you probably haven't heard of. I love music, and I mean it, I enjoy all kinds of music and when I hear a song that I really like I don't care what genre it belongs to. This is why I thought it would be hard for a website to recommend music I would actually care about, but I'm impressed with last.fm.
Oh, and this year I've become a subscriber! And I'm one very happy subscriber =)
I've spent endless nights listening to music, discovering new music and rediscovering some bands. This website has definitely taken my obsession with music to another level. I think that's what makes it really unique and I love it.
