hey! thanks for that group I'm glad there's some uni presence on last.fm I was accustomed to being at least among a few of those at my college who use it. it's a real shame we've a low compatibility since the artists we share in common are so good! kudos on being interested in the Om and going to the Submotion Orchestra show too, those definitely look well worth seeing! I might suggest it's so because you only have a 1/4 of the listens I do but then again that might not mean anything -_-

Thanks for playing all those great tracks in the car on our journey today, and here I can see the artists listed. I've made a note. I hope the cats were OK while you were away.

Hi Helene, yes it will be a good evening! Really looking forward to the meet up. i did see Alexander Tucker some 3 or 4 years ago supporting Fuck Buttons. I'll check him out once I'm back from End of the Road!

Hey Helena, by a lengthily process of 2+2=4, I suppose that you're the Helena that left a comment on my brother's music? He's got a new track out on Threadbare, and if you'd like to send us your email address, we'd more than happily keep you updated on all things Redwings. Oh, and thanks for last.fm add! The electric tension of super compatibility hangs palpably in the air...

So there is! It's the one that sounds like a Frenchman riding his bike downhill so erratically that he gets hopelessly entangled in his string of onions. I don't know them that well aside from No Shouts No Calls.

I'm going to hazard a guess that attempting banter with any member of Mogwai may be difficult without some sort of amplification device.... I'm really hoping they'll be ear-bleedingly loud on Friday... I won't be happy if my ears are working properly the next day. I'll look out for you although I'm still not sure what you look like I HAVE heard your voice so I'll do some careful listening when I'm at the bar and it's just possible I'll hear you ordering drinks!

i'm back in England for a few weeks before returning to China for another year (i even got a promotion to senior teacher, ooooh errr), hence actually using last.fm for a while (my laptop broke and i haven't replaced it so no music charts for me, which does the geek in me no good). China's great, the people are super friendly, there's so much to see and do and i love my job, i'm even picking up the language slowly but surely :-) So yeah.. I'm a happy bunny basically. I do miss england though, the food especially! haha Nice work with the kitten, i miss having a cat loafing around the house in search of better places to snooze. Any plans now you're all done or dusted with your MA?

I had a fantastic time and (thanks to my girlfriend) got to have a brief chat with her afterwards, she was so nice, signed a CD with a lovely message and even gave me a hug :). Was it you she was speaking to from stage towards the end of the gig? I heard 'Helena' and 'sent me a CD' and thought it may be. I was in the middle and although I was looking over I couldn't see exactly where you were and lost track of you as we were leaving. I had a wonderful time and I'm already hoping she hurries back.

I'll keep an eye out for you... although I should warn you I'm not much good at recognising people I've actually met. An embarrassed silence has been known to occur when people say hello to me at gigs as I panic and try and run my creaky brain trying to work out who is speaking to me.... I'm sure I owe you a drink for Dark Dark Dark so I will try my best. Have a safe journey and maybe see you on Sunday

Hi. Hoxton Bar and Kitchen is quite a nice place, a little bit TOO trendy for an old grump like me but the space where bands play is a good size and the sound is pretty good. I've only been there once so I need to refresh my own internal map, it's only about 10-15 minutes walk from Old Street tube. I'm really looking forward to it. I downloaded 'Last night...' from the Captain Obvious blog, here's a link but if you have any trouble let me know and I'll mail you the MP3. The covers Mixtape stuff he uploads are really worth checking out. Say hello if you spot me on the 13th! (I do realise that my Last fm photo may not provide easy identification!) http://www.thankscaptainobvious.net/2010/11/covers-mixtape-xxviii.html

Happy New Year, Helena! If it was you who recommended me Clogs, then that was such a good call. I am just listening to the 'The Creatures in the Garden of Lady Walton' album made jointly with Shara Worden. Highly recommended, if you don't have it.

That's a wow from me.... thank you for the Christmas gift (even if I only 'unwrapped' it today) Dark Dark Dark are excellent stuff and they've just joined my shopping list as I'm about to go out trawling the shops. They remind me a little of O'Death who I saw supporting Nina Nastasia at The Roundhouse a few years back.... were you there? If not... here's a trusty Daytrotter Session. http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/odeath-concert/20030111-110680.html

How did the words 'Grizzly Bear' not come up this weekend? You would really love Greenman Festival I think; with the possible exception of the weather in those Welsh mountains that is. Talking of weather, it was -10C in the Peak District. brrrr It was great to meet you Helena x

In Brighton it was a place called... the Freebutt? And in London Café Oto. First time I'd seen her. So intense. Ugh I like her music too much. But glad to hear I'm not the only one stalking her! (seeing her more than once per tour) Sorry you missed out on the interview, bet she will do it another time, she seems cool like that. Did you ever read this interview with her? http://pitchfork.com/features/interviews/6819-nina-nastasia/ The stuff she writes about the crowd in Slovenia is hilarious. Anyway, I had better curtail this ramble before it all gets too sycophantic. Oh, and am glad you liked my tumblr. It's mostly just a vent for random thoughts with nowhere else to go, so nice to find out someone is amused by it. x

Thanks for the add. Saw you were going to see Nina in Brighton (or did I imagine that?), wanted so badly to go too, if I wasn't landlocked in Denmark... Then I saw today the British dates got cancelled. And now feel bad for all the people who were gonna go see her. And for Nina of course, I'm sure she must be properly ill. Kind of double glad now I saw her three times in May (oh the shame, oh the awesomeness of it all). So much love for Nina. Well, that's my blathering over with. You have great taste btw :) x

ooh thanks for listening! don't worry we never play b*witched, nor do I ever allow as much guff like Lightning Seeds or Oasis again. i just wanted to keep Becky awake and interested. we should be going out live this Thursday 11th 4 till 6pm. if you give me a request before then that you think i'd have then i'll play it for you. the innocence mission are one of my favourite sleeping artists so that certainly ain't no backhanded compliment. if you weren't in New Zealand we could go and see Gold Panda at Coalition tomorrow night for under a fiver. hope you have fun over there. i'm going to try for another interview with Marnie Stern next Friday and hope that one doesn't fall through.

I'm still getting into Freelance Whales... Pretty good stuff. I'm scared to look too hard at what your listening to due to the fear of how much it'll cost me in purchases! Really can't wait for March, just my dad's birthday early on that may cause a clash, although I'm sure he'd understand when I go for the gig......

Only a semi-tip off but I'd keep March as free as possible as it seems Sharon Van Etten will be on these shores :) http://www.last.fm/event/1721832+The+War+on+Drugs+at+Cargo+on+3+March+2011

Glad you liked it. I saw She Keeps Bees for the first time in my local pub at a free music night they used to run. Ended up buying a couple of CDs and chatting to Jessica the singer who is really lovely and friendly. Had no idea they had a connection with Sharon Van Etten until recently when I came across 'Cuddle Alone'. Their stuff really isn't anything like that song but I really like them. There's a music player on their website http://www.shekeepsbees.com/ . Go for the song 'Pile Up' it's definitely one of my favourites. They have an album and an EP on Spotify (the Sharon Van Etten song is on there too). x

Good evening. Glad you liked Lady Lioness, she's one of the best random finds I've had in a long time. Have got Múm and Efterklang and I agree they are brilliant... Amiina will be added to the already lengthy 'must check out' list.... close to the top though as you a very, VERY good record of recommending stuff I really like :) I'm keeping a daily eye out for Sharon Van Etten UK dates although looking at her schedule I think January/February next year will be the earliest she visits us. As soon as I get the merest whiff of a UK tour I'll let you know x

Thanks for the thought, I only found the Nina Nastasia dates by chance a couple of days ago so grabbed my ticket immediately. Not sure if the Scala would be my top choice of venue to see her but I'm still really looking forward to it. Loving the new Sharon Van Etten, what do you think of it? Still looking into Peter Broderick but really liking what I've heard so far. If I may offer you a recommendation I've really enjoyed listening to Lady Lioness since I listened to her stuff recently and she has a whole heap of free music here..... http://ladylioness.bandcamp.com/ Thanks again :)

Hello Madam! I know how you feel about the old itunes clear out - I'm going to be doing mine tonight after my gig (gonna be up a few hours i think). Anyhow, if you could put it on your itunes as Standard Lamps that would be ace as thats what i have on my itunes. Hopefully i'll have a new EP to throw your way in September! Scrobble me up! Cheers for coming the other night - i'm suprised you didnt line dance all the way home after the last band!

OK, that's got me feeling more than a little envious ;) It would certainly earn my devotion too! Wanted to say thanks for recommending Kaki King, it wasn't what I was expecting but I really like it.... The list of albums I need to buy is getting to the point where I'll probably need to take a shopping trolley into Rough Trade!

Hello there. I've just tracked down Kaki King on Spotify so I'll be giving that a listen this afternoon. Thank you. So glad you're enjoying Sharon Van Etten. I've got the Daytrotter sessions and I agree they are brilliant.... Just in case you haven't come across this one here's a link to an as yet unreleased Sharon Van Etten song 'I Couldn't Save You' I think it's gorgeous. It's from the soundtrack to a film called 'The Builder'. Link to the MP3 is at the end of the article. http://www.ifc.com/blogs/indie-ear/2010/06/jagjaguwar-film-release-the-bu.php

Hello there, thanks for the recommendations. I like Go Away Birds, will need a few listens to really get into them though (it was the same for God Help The Girl). Loving Marissa Nadler though, not sure how she escaped my attention for so long. Excellent stuff, thank you :)

Hey! your right it has been a while.. Ooh yeah Kreuzburg is lovely, not sure if i went to cake or not but there are lots of really nice bars around that area (and one really good music venue, Lido, it used to be a cinema i think). I lived in Charlottenburg which is in the less trendy west side of Berlin. It's v leafy and homely though/ full of v nice restaurants. I'm back at home (hence the lack of gigs, it's takes a lot of effort to organise getting to notts) working as a waiter/bar person at a local hotel. I did 28 hours in 2 days last week, mental :S I've finally got a teaching job sorted in China though! I'm flying out on the 3rd of February, just in time for chinese new year. How are things with you these days? still doing your masters or are you upto something else?

I wish I knew, I hope it involves actual pogo sticks. I really hope that's how tomorrow night works out. I most definitely will enjoy it infinitesimally more now that I'm going to approach it as a social research opportunity. It'll be like England 2007 only less accents and more angsty kids looking to "fuck things up". Fantastic. I hope there's scones. Concerning Jens, really I'm fairly certain Jens could just snap his fingers and whistle a bit and I'd be entranced. I think it's the Swedishness. They're just so fantastic. It really makes me wonder why the Swedes don't run everything everywhere. I enjoy Frou Frou's Let Go, if approached from a Postal Service view. I shall definitely look into Emmy the Great and Micah P HInson. Have I mentioned how much I like the name Micah?

I was just about to tell you that you should definitely listen to Florence and the Machine, but according to your Library (yep outright stalking) you've already heard their (her?) loveliness. So how about I suggest Frou Frou. Although no longer in existence, they're quite nice AND aren't in your library! Could it be, I, Brian suggest music for You, Helena for the first time EVER! I'm so thrilled at this prospect. Also, because it's music related guess who has been prodded into accompanying his sister to see the Bouncing Souls? Yep, she pulled the "I went to go see Beirut with you?!" card, to which I replied "Yes, but there was no mosh pit at Beirut!" But I've been promised limitless alcohol and all expenses paid. I'm totally going to bring her to go see Bjork now.

30$!? wow is NZ expensive for cd's generally? Yeah i finally downloaded the noble beast t'other day and am liking it so far, he has a really nice grasp of melody. I hadn't really listened to the fall until this year either, they'r really good fun, lots of witty vitriolic lyrics and angular guitars. Beachdown is at devils dike isn't it? I remember walking there from campus during first year (it was like 16miles! it was supposed to be a strole but turned into a pretty epic hike :P) it's a really nice spot, a pretty cool place for a festival. Yeah i didn't go to TGE either, sacrificed in the cause of essay writing :/ I'v just got referencing to finish off (i made the classic mistkake of only sporadically noting where i'v got things as i went along) and some editing so it's not all bad. This summer i should, hopefully, be doing a TEFL course in brighton and errrm that's about as far as my planning goes :P
