Very impressive! I know what you mean about French being easier to write in; I also find it difficult to comprehend when spoken. It's weird. Maybe because native speakers tend to drop syllables and use contractions? Ionesco! interesting choice - I shall investigate :) My visit went pretty well! I'm excited to go there for their Core, and yeah, I have no clue as of yet what I'll be studying :P How about you? Languages will probably factor in, I'm thinking? ;) So how's second semester going for you? I'm trying to relax by reading more, but my teachers seem to have the opposite idea...

Oh nice! So how many languages will you have studied including Italian and Persian? And yeah, I also have a list of some modern French literature that I want to read in the original when I get good enough. I've attempted some, and it's definitely not easy :D Ah nice, schools on both coasts! It's great that you're coming over to the East Coast for college! And if you're into backpacking, I think Cornell would be perfect for you! Ithaca is seriously gorgeous. I visited there this summer and really loved it, but I ended up going for a more urban environment, since I'm probably going to go to Columbia next year. I'm visiting this weekend - very exciting! My spring break was pretty uneventful really... I didn't go anywhere or do anything exciting, just sitting at home and relaxing mostly :) And yeah I just checked and most of the the songs that I love and already have are from Sympathique, so I think I'll get that one! Grazie :D

And ahh, I noticed you've been listening to Pink Martini a lot recently! I love them! But I need more of their songs... which album should I get?

Wow, I completely forgot that I never replied to your last post! Yeah, I have heard of Pedro Almodovar, but I've never actually seen any of his films. Which would you recommend to begin with? Speaking of literature, my best friend and I are undertaking a reading project. Yknow that song I sent you (The Booklovers) with all of the authors? We're going to read a book by each of them. It should be a lot of fun! We decided to start with Gabriel Garcia Marquez (we're doing Love in the Time of Cholera at the moment), but after that we're going to go in order :P With some Shakespeare sprinkled in between for when we get bored :D But anyway, have you decided where you're going next year for school? I remember we had a conversation about that a while ago... :P

Hey, no problem! Romantic comedies are the best. We recently did A Midsummer Night's Dream, which was hilarious. Which works are your favorites? My favorite remains Hamlet. The Merchant of Venice is also really great, and I want to read King Lear so badly. My Lit class is going on a trip to see Measure for Measure soon, which is exciting! And haha, that quote from Ulysses is so true :D I'm glad you liked that song - it makes me laugh so much. I love all of the voices and some of the things they say are ridiculously hilarious- "Hellooo, little girl." - Nabokov. Have you read Nabokov btw? I'm doing him for my senior lit thesis. And yeah, same here - I wanted to buy one of those little horns too, but yikes at the price.

And yeah, they are used by Andrew Bird :) I found the place where he got them custom made: http://www.specimenproducts.com/amps/littlehorns.html Guess they call them little horns. They're really very elegant - I want one! :)

Yeah, I'm finishing them all up today, and it's such a tiresome process... Your essay sounds great! I like your topic - I can just imagine what I would write for that prompt... I chose to do the 'how were you caught' prompt. I relayed a little anecdote where I ended up doing something because I saw everyone else doing it, and getting into a sticky situation because of it. Then I talked about being caught conforming, etc. Twas a fun essay to write :) Nice! I wish I had more free time; I'm hoping to get less work now that we're into second semester. I like your Shakespeare idea - I just might copy it :D Which work are you up to? Are you going to read all of his minor plays and sonnets too? Wow, Camus in French. I am envious! Yeah, we read The Stranger in class this year. Oh btw, there's a song that you might find enjoyable: The Booklovers by The Divine Comedy. It made me laugh :) As for my profile pic, I don't really know what they're called either. I just call them spinny horn things.

Hey! It's funny you ask because I was just finishing my essays for UChicago last night! I'm really glad you decided to apply, it's a great school. Which prompt did you do for the extended essay? Senior year is going alright... it's just these college apps are annoying. How about you?

OOh that's pretty intresting. Left is here Socialistic (and with that I mean really socialistic, coz the most left party used to be communstic(but it changed quite a long time ago)) and right is liberal(with free market economy and such things). and then you have another different between progressive and conservative. http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bestand:Krouwel_Space.JPG like in that scheme (links=left, rechts=right and the other quite look like the english word). To be honest, I barely know any good dutch music. I guess that's because we don't really have music scene and people who play in bands are somewhat rare.. I really like Marike Jager. Awkward I isn't really bad too. Voicst and the Madd are probably the bands that are most my music taste, but I don't really like them at all. I find Voicst's lead singer a pretty annoying person and the Madd sound boring and repetive to me. Wouter Hamel has a few nice songs, but he plays jazz...

dutch people often vote(or in the end our parlement results in) a more socialistic environment(slightly, it's a bit 'left'(=socialistic) from the middle). Which results in social security and such. we have really a lot parties, some are just for certain towns or 'states' but we have at least 10 'national' big parties(there used to be a lot more, but a lot christian parties united). So I guess there's a pick for everyone.

I don't think they broadcast Scrubs or Seinfield here, or they broadcast it at impossible times(such as midnight). Sounds intersting.. I can't imagine something like that happening in Holland at all. Simply coz we dutch love our freedom, I don't think we will give it up easily at all. But on the other hand, isn't everybody afraid of the unknown? At the moment there's a lot of noise about Geert Wilders(don't know if you heard about him). he got all those ridicule ideas about moslims, it's totally crazy, and it's even more crazy that people support him. He lately suggested that people wearing headscarfs(I don't know the english word ^^,) should pay extra taxes.. It's just crazy! seriously, I can't really understand why people would vote for him at all! It's really discriminating. But good, there's a lot bigger group who would never ever vote for him, which is (in my opinion) a good thing. I always find it intresting that America has just 2 parties, and both are really liberal. While

Ooh lol, I've never watched the OC in my life. The only TV show I sort of 'follow' (well, I record it and when I'm really bored I just watch a lot episodes) is House M.D. I totally love it and Hugh Laurie plays his character brilliant! I never really got the reason for the Cold War and Vietnam. Though I think it got a lot to do with communism. The Vietnam war is one of the two subjects for my history exam. Ooh but that count was just in the weekend, at a normal school day I'll reach 1500-2000 easily. We have 1550 students and something like 150 teachers, headteacher, etc. And I'm not the only one in the morning using my bicycle, a lot of people use it to go to work and such, or parents with young children bringing them too school. ^^, My bicycle is near 10 years old, ugly, hold together with a lot of ductape and too small for me. But it moves, so it's OK for me :P I've seen worse, and I mean with that A LOT worse ;)

Also a few years ago, during the soccermatch Netherlands-Germany, this sign came fully in the screen for a minute or something, it said: 'Mijn opa wil zijn fiets terug'(which is dutch for my grandpa wants his bike back), such things always happen if it comes to things between german and dutch. The average sign is 'Wo ist mein fahrrad?(which is german for 'where's my bike?'), there are even t-shirts with such prints :P Other one is Gib mein fahrrad zuruck!(german for give my bike back!) There is still some sort of hate I guess. ooh another thing about bicycles(I start to sound obsessed now :P); someone ask me to count them today(how much I saw), as I work as a postman.. during a two hour walk, I quite somewhere at 130 or something :P Turns out there were so many coz there was some event or something in the center of my village.. It did even surprise me(on average I will still think I'll count about 75 or something as there are a lot near front doors and such)

is Orange County the same as what the O.C. is based on? not that I watch that stupid serie or something :P Though, I guess that if it is, it is quite well known anyway :P Didn't see any other Tarantino movies before, but it's said that they're good or something. We dutch still have some hate against nazi's.. but that's part of our history. I mean, my grandparents did hide some canadian soldier and such. My grandma now got Alzheimers and Parkinson etc, so she's not living all by herself anymore. But she used to live near the coast, and I know the stories that they were catching rabbits there for food. My grandpa was a groceryman(I don't know if that's a word) and he was supposed to give grocery(how surprising) to the germans. For example the potato-story: He gave away the 'good' potatoes to the local people, filled a part of the car/sack/whatever with stones and put the bad potatoes on top. My grandma HATES nazis.. which isn't surprsing.

We dutch people are just really weird :P ooh and rude, at least my new english teacher who's from abroad was complaining about that.. but the good thing was, she said, is that we only give compliments and such as we really mean it and not because we are being polite or something. I think it's true anyway. Went to see that new movie last saturday. Also bought Armchair Apocrypha the same day. I did order Fitz+Dizzyspells and Noble Beast on the internet.. I still have to buy Eggs anyway, but I guess I'll do that later this year. Anyway, back to that movie, I actually thought Inglorious Basterds was rather boring. It has too much dialogue and I found the end stupid and even in someway annoying. Though it was some moments quite funny, but maybe I just had too high expectations. Ooh and the story wasn't really intresting too.. so I got no clue why everybody likes it so much actually :P

ooh nice :) I barely buy band shirts, mainly coz I got no clue if I like them in the future. But Andrew's soo great, I have to like him ^^, and the guy got nice shirts. I've only been to shows where andrew was the main act, so I never really got time to buy something during the show. And before and after it's always really busy, so I might order one from the internet :P ah well, I'll have one someday. And yeah, a lot people listen to really bad music(emo, rap, hiphop, etc.) I just don't like it. Ooh lol, A'dam is short for Amsterdam. We dutch people are very lazy and type it like A'dam. It's a sort of automatism for me. (It's the same with Rotterdam which is R'dam short). Dunno really why that is. It's only those two on which we use that :P And The Hague, but that's sort of different coz it's officially called 's-Gravenhage, but nobody uses that, we allsay Den Haag. Same's with Den Bosch(officially 's-Hertogenbosch), but nobody uses that too :P.. Somewhat weird now I think about it :P

I'll be in A'dam by that time and I still got some gift-thingy with money for music on it.. So I guess I'll pay half of it with that(I have to use it anyway) and other half with my own money ^^, I want it sooo bad now..

ooh well, my first week of school was pretty good actually. I had to laugh so hard it made me cry, twice! I''ll tell you what I think about Jane Austen when I read it. I think I know that t-shirt.. does he bring it on his tour? or that one on his site(I actually don't know if they're different :P).. I really want that one with that sort of 'wind-up' bird.. But I'm not really good in saving money at all.. ^^, I actually believe Andrew is more well-known in the USA than over here. I mean, here he plays for 1500 man-venues and barely(or accidently) selling them out. In the states he plays for much bigger venues! Though, I prefer him in a small one ^^, My friend's b-day was yesterday, she was totally delighted coz her brother gave her the noble beast-deluxe edition and she was really happy with it(I, together with some other friends gave her a cellphone coz her old one didn't work and it was rather annoying ^^, she was really happy with that too). I try to buy the album this saturday, coz

sorry, for the somewhat late response.. I've been quite busy lately(with school). I have to read something from Jane Austen(I believe that's the autor) this year, and another 2 books that I haven't recieved yet. Movie is re-scheduled to next week, coz we're throwing a suprise party for my friend.... Oh I wish I had an Andrew Birdtshirt.. It's always or extremely busy at the merch table(and I never really feel like waiting) or I don't have enough money with me or there aren't really nice tshirt.. or all of it ^^, good cashier! smart person :P ooh damn, I wish it was november already.. nah.. not really.. I have testweek the first week of november.. I hope I'll do good.. I have too

I always like hearing other people talk.. it's often quite funny. I'm always wondering who they are, if they're married, children, etc. But most people don't have anything nice to say. But yeah, at Andrew's concert at 7 may, Laura Marling was support act and people were doign the 'ssssssssh!' coz the talking was so loud. And it kept loud untill Andrew came ofcourse ^^, I just think it's rude. And mean. I'm not really advanced in english I think.. I'm a rather bad speaker.. in my own opinion.. but I'm still one of the best in my class ^^, I had to read Hamlet last year. It was really old english and I didn't really understand it.. and it was really BORING.. We had to listen to it and read at the same time and the voice of Hamlet was extremely gay.. which was the most intresting part of all.. I guess.. I'm going to that new Tarantino film(Inglorious Bastards) probably saturday. It should be good I guess... at least, reviews say it's really good ^^,
