Leveling out my music... it's starting to happen

I predicted a few years ago and even mention it in my "about me" section of last.fm that my music, at least statistically speaking, would level off over time. That time has come. While I still listen to as many breaking bands as I ever did, what happens is merely a reaction of statistics. For example, I have 533 Beatles tracks, compared to 30 for the Kaiser Chiefs, thus if you were going to shuffle your songs, the Beatles are, of course, going to get more play. Additionally, there are times when I just listen to 'stand-bys" that eventually really make their way up the charts (think Dido). Is she my favorite? No, but if I have work to do and it is a cruddy rainy day outside, her music fits better than nearly any ones. Then we have the phenomenon of concerts. When I see a show, I typically listen to them a lot prior to the concert, or if they put on a surprisingly good show I may listen to them more AFTER the show (think Keane). So… despite the fact that I can go on a Feelies binge and positively love X, Pere Ubu, Minor Threat et al, they will not crack my top 50 any longer. When it takes over 200+ listens to even make my Top 50, you will see these paradoxes. Music is like life, especially food. We all have our "comfort food" such as Mac & Cheese, one of mine. Do I like Mac & Cheese more than Paella? No. But I eat it more as it IS a comfort food. Dido is like an old blanket that is worn in and comfortable. Is it a bit shabby now? Yes, but I refuse to throw it out…
