wow, Rome is a beautiful city, even though it is quite far from where I live (about 8 hours by train!!). I was there only once, unluckily... but I'm going to Florence next week, can't wait! since I'm going with a friend of mine I hope we won't get lost, hahah :D uh, yes, GY!BE are like my favourite band ever *_* I wish I could attend one of their concerts ;_; PS aw, really, how come you don't study philosophy at school? I mean I go to a languages school but we have to study philosphy and latin as well (humanistic subjects! yay!) PPS (I tend to misuse "PS's", you know XD) that's Alex Delarge! nice choice, I love A clockwork orange :D

well, we studied the Critique of pure reason at school this year, next year we're gonna study kant's other works. whoa. I read something by arthur schopenhauer, he was a great philosopher, I believe (except for his mysoginist ideas, meeeh.) so you were in italy :o that's nice, which cities did you visited? I wish I could go to canada, haha. you have such great post-rock bands in there!! T_T

woah, you're 16 and read nieztsche, sartre and kant. I admire you! I like kant too but I don't think I'm able to fully comprehend his philosophy - maybe some day I will. nice music taste, too! explosions in the sky are an amazing band. cheers!

Le château and La gloire ? Naturally -- excellent films. I'd recommend Delicatessen as well ; very film buff-like. Grégoire Moulin contre l'humanité is a great what we call 'film culte'. Yann Tiersen ... beautiful work in Good Bye Lenin and Amélie, although Tabarly was a disappointment for me personally. Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei is an excellent German film, and from what I've seen, Das Leben der Anderen also. La Môme is an Edith Piaf biographical picture, but it's certainly a hearty recommendation. Soviet films are in a class of their own. It's hard to pick the 'top' films from that genre, but ... Sluzhebnyy roman, Vokzal dlya dvoikh, Ivan Vasilevich menyaet professiyu, Zhestokiy romans, and Po semeynym obstoyatelstvam. Would you recommend anything ?

Amélie is one of my favourite films. Jean de Florette ... I adore Marcel Pagnol. Have you seen La Gloire de mon père or Le Château de ma mère ? La Règle du jeu ... Jean Renoir is wonderful. Soviet films are good as well, have you seen any ?

Bah, they look very similar ! xD I do not know as much about the English films as the French, but I can assure we have our own 'modern' classics coming out as this is being written. Such as -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H59Py7KApU

Alrighty, I've now listened to The Cold Vein about three times, and it's a damn fine album...Though it seems they've only released that one album, which is a bummer. Immortal Technique is great as well from what I've heard, though in my opinion he seems a bit too revolutionary for his own good...The whole revolution thing wears a bit thin after 15 songs or so.

Fuck Metal purism. If listening to Hip-Hop will mean I'm not a Metalhead, that's one more reason to listen to it. One thing I've learned being on Last.fm is that the majority of people who label themselves Metalheads are ignorant, elitist tards and it's a label I have no desire to be tagged with. I always thought The Beatles were overrated as well, then I heard Eleanor Rigby one day, went on to listen to Revolver, then became a Beatles nut. Alright, it's almost 3:00 here, guess I'll be turning in. I'll check out Big L / Deltron 3030 if I end up liking Cannibal Ox, which I'll give a couple of listens to before reaching my verdict. I've heard good things about Immortal Technique as well (On Metal forums no less), so that's another possible artist to check out.

Sobre mim

Welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, well. To what do I owe the extreme pleasure of this surprising visit?

My name is Jake, and I'm an unpatriotic Canadian. Not to say that I'm ungrateful for the excellent living conditions and whatnot, but the lack of culture and identity is rather depressing. My main passion is music, even though, regrettably, I am incapable of playing any instruments (I'd like to learn drums and piano someday). Explosions in the Sky, Iron Maiden, Frédéric Chopin, Pearl Jam, and Neil Young are my favorite artists of all-time. As one can facilely observe in my charts, my taste is incessantly evolving. I used to be a listener of exclusively metal, but I suppose I've simply grown past that. Now I'm an ardent advocate of post-rock, which I believe is my musical niche. However, my library ranges from classical to hip-hop: Beethoven to Big L. I'll listen to anything except country, so recommendations are always welcome.

I am interested in a multitude of other subjects. A notable one being philosophy. I'm somewhat of a pseudo-intellectual, being aligned with existentialism and libertarianism. I read Nietzsche, whom I emulate, Sartre, Kant, Kierkegaard, Spinoza, Schopenhauer, Marx, and Russell, among others. I also love literature, mostly Russian. I have an insatiable fascination with Dostoevsky, and read Tolstoy, Gogol, Pushkin, Turgenev, Dante, Cervantes, Voltaire, Kafka, Orwell, Goethe and many others as well. Despite my monolingual status, I very much enjoy languages. I'm studying German, and hope to pursue Russian in the future. I'm a wannabe-film buff, some of my favorites being A Clockwork Orange, Life is Beautiful, and Silence of the Lambs. I worship Stanley Kubrick and Kevin Spacey. Other interests of mine include history, travel, nature, anthropology, and religious studies. I aspire to attend university and become a professor of linguistics.
