Thank you to the strokes for encapsulating exactly how I had been feeling for the past week or so. Repetition governs all of our lives in one way or another and not more so than this week when a mountain of university work resulted in my life regressing to simple cycle of: Work. Eat. Sleep. Fortunately, that work load has eased, meaning I’ve actually been able to enjoy a little time off… for now.
During this week Fear of Sleep has constantly been stuck in my head, and a very particular part. Its not really surprising that this is a song that can be so easily recalled. Its constant use of repetition of specific pithy phrases really grinds the words into you. The most grinding of those words? “You’re no fun!”. I guess it was just starting to get to me that any sort of social life I had previously had to be compromised for more bloody work. Bloody work!
"You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun! You’re no fun!" - The Strokes - Fear of Sleep
I guess its all about looking into the long term. A short term headache for a long term benefit? I hope its worth it.
I’ll hopefully be a little more fun in the near future.
