Of course it's alot more complex than that... I mean I do like, for example, Damien Hirst's 'The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living'. I don't think that's rubbish or ''not art''. So there is some good conceptual art out there but like I said, most of it doesn't engage me on a visual level...maybe it's not meant to...man, I hate talking about art!

''intent and process are as important if not more important than the final product in many cases.'' Yeah, that's something that is drummed into our heads at art school! I understand the thinking behind that, but it seems to me that many contemporary artists use it as an excuse to display work that is...how can I put this...boring? I think a balance is important. When creating visual art the finished thing should be interesting to *look* at. If it's not it kinda of defeats the purpose somewhat. A lot of modern art seems to require an in depth explanation from the artist in order for you to be able to get anything from the work. I like to be able to just look and something and 'get' it without having to hear someone ramble on about some vague idea they had, which in turn inspired the work. That's probably why I prefer good old fashioned painting over what is labelled as 'Conceptual Art'.

Great to hear you like Pollock and Rothko. I can't stand it when people (and it has to be said, it's normally people who've never attempted any painting in their lives) say that Pollock was a bad painter with no talent. Y'know the usual shit...''Anyone could do those drip paintings''. I'd love to see them have a go! No need to say much about Rothko apart from that they're some of the most powerful works of art ever created.

Well, I hope your painting turns out favourably. Abstraction takes years to master...it's an incredibly difficult (and complex) process to get to grips with. Actually, painting is bloody difficult full stop! I'm going to try and do some looser works very soon as well because completeing a photorealist painting is too much for my brain to handle...the mental strain is unbearable. So are there any particular abstract painters who's work you admire?

I'm doing printmaking classes as well atm. I only get two days of etching and two days of screen printing (which is nowhere near enough time to create anything good...or anything that I'm totally happy with at least). Also, printing is a pretty complex process - it can be hard to get your heard around all the different stages - so it sucks having to rush through it. Still, it's always fun to see the image emerge once you've inked it up and put it through the press. For some reason, the image always tends to turn out ok - even when doing very simple monoprints!

I can see all the pictures now, so no worries! My computer must have just been very slow at loading them earlier. So are they all recent creations? They seem quite different to the stuff I've seen by you in the past...more 'painterly' and loose. I'm also interested by the title of the second image...was the inspiration behind that piece actually decaying metal?

Really liking the artwork in your ''About Me'' section. Some of the images don't seem to be showing up though... any idea what's up with that?

It is my thought that too many people react to art by what they think they are supposed to see, hear, experience or procure from it. It is also my thought that some of the best art depicts nothing in particular, save for an abstracted canvas the onlooker can project him or herself onto.

I've accumulated a crapload of last.fm friends and various acquaintances over the four and a half I've been on this site; due to this fact, it looks like I like everyone and shit but it's really because I'm pretty lazy and don't delete old friends I don't talk to or associate with anymore...

Still, feel free to contact me or post in my shoutbox if you think we'd be good buddies or just want to talk music. Thanks.
