Hexperos - The Veil Of Queen Mab .

Das Beste hab' ich mir für den Schluß aufgehoben, nämlich meine persönliche Neuentdeckung des Jahres 2011, auch wenn das Album schon von 2010 stammt.
Jedenfalls ist es das aktuelle Werk von diesem itialienischem Duo. Es ist ihr zweites Album auf dem portugiesischen Label Equilibrium Music. Das die beiden auch privat ein Paar sind, merkt man, da ihre Musik sehrharmonisch daher kommt, wie aus einem Guß.
Wegen der Geburt ihrer gemeinsamen Tochter 2011, war es wohl ein wenig ruhiger bei ihnen, was das Musikmachen anlangt.
Bisher kannte ich Hexperos nur von 2 Beiträgen auf den italienischen Samplern: „Nikolaevka“, und „In the darkroom Vol.1“, beide von 2008, die allerdings sehr ruhig geraten sind.
Dieses Album hingegen bietet von allem etwas. Mindestens 2 Titel davon sind für mich Tanzflächen-tauglich, und werden demnächst in Spielberichten auftauchen…

Wie soll man ihre Musik beschreiben?
Ethereal, mit Beimengungen von Martial Industrial und tag]Modern Classical vielleicht.
Eine Melange aus Dead Can Dance und Rosa Crvx ?
Entscheidet bitte selbst.
Die Mischung machts eben mal wieder. Es wirkt nie eindimensional oder langweilig, was natürlich auch daran liegt, daß die beiden wissen was sie tun. Der schöne opernhafte Gesang von Alessandra Santovito, fügt sich in die Kompositionen ihres Partners Francesco Forgione gelungen ein. Ein sehr stimmiges und wohlklingendes Werk, das besonders von den
gekonnten Arrangements mit akustischen Instrumenten wie Harfe, Blas- und Streichinstrumenten sowie Schlagwerk profitiert.
Besser gehts nicht.

I saved the best for my final review in 2k11.
My personal highlight so far this year, a new discovery,
despite that the album dates back to 2010.
Nevertheless it is the latest full length opus, the 2nd by the Italian duo to be precise, which has been released on a Portuguese label. Obviously the duo is a couple too. This is reflected in their sound, which is greatly harmonic and consistent. Due to the birth of their daughter in 2011, they paused in their musical output I suspect.
I came across their band name only on two samplers from 2008:
"Nikolaevka", and "In the Darkroom Vol.1". Their contributions on the two Italian compilations are very quiet indeed,
and do not stand out much. But their latest work is much more forward going, and versatile.
At least 2 tracks are good dance tunes. First and foremost:
„Queen Mab“, which is featured on the video mentioned in this posting, as well as "El Velo Azul"
So watch out for upcoming playlists of mine, which will feature those titles.
A good definition of their sound would be Ethereal, mixed with Martial Industrial und Modern Classical elements.
Dead Can Dance meets Rosa Crvx ?
I leave it for you to decide.
The blending of those elements makes their sound so interesting. It is at no point boring or sounds one-dimensional. They know exactly what their up for. The beautiful opera-like vocals by Alessandra Santovito are bedded into the ompositions of her partner Francesco Forgione. A fitting and very pleasant work, which profits immensely from the arrangements with acoustic instruments, e.g. acoustic guitar, harp, reeds, strings and percussion.
That's as good as it gets.
