Quite a lot I would like to say, I haven't listened in to the albums that "supposedly" were the greatest this year (if you read musicblogs magazines and critics lists) , such as Feist, The National, Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, Radiohead. The list goes on and on and on...
I'm sure they're great, but they haven't caught my attention. With that said, let's see what I've really been listening to this year.
TOP 5 SONGS
(in no particular order, 'cause I can't rank them)
1. Band of Horses - Is There A Ghost?
Sadly I haven't got a chance to really listen to the whole record, but this song just blew my mind when I first heard it. Great tune!
2. Tegan and Sara - Nineteen (The acoustic performance @ AOL Spinner)
The whole album is what I've played the most this year, but this song knocked me out when I heard the acoustic version. I had tears in my eyes, for real! And still get it when I hear it. Pure fucking magic!
3. Ryan Adams - Two
The first song that I heard from his album this year. Everything just felt right the first time I heard it. A RA classic!
4. The New Pornographers - My Right Versus Yours
Kind of a late bloomer, I heard this song and thought it was an OK song, but nothing much more. But it grew, and grew!
5. Young Love - Find A New Way
An early favorite. The record came out in January, but this song has joined me throughout the year.
OTHER GREAT TUNES THIS YEAR:
M.I.A. - Paper Planes
Cloetta Paris - I Miss You Someone
Counting Crows - Cowboys
Britney Spears - Piece Of Me
Daft Punk - Harder Better Faster Stronger (2007 Live Edit)
Kent - Generation Ex
Adam Tensta - My Cool
Ryan Adams - I Taught Myself How To Grow Old
Manic Street Preachers (feat. Nina Persson) - Your Love Alone Is Not Enough
Maia Hirasawa - Mattis & Maia
Rihanna - Umbrella (Couldn't really left that one out could I? Though it's the remixes of the song that has been spinning at home.)
Tegan and Sara - Back In Your Head
Säkert! - Allt Som Är Ditt
Valve Software - Still Alive (The cake is a lie!)
Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend
Sahara Hotnights - Visit To Vienna
The Reason (feat. Sara Quin) - We're So Beyond This
TOP 5 ALBUMS
(in order, 'cause these I CAN rank. :P)
1. Tegan and Sara - The Con
There's no question which album has been playing the most for me this year. I just love every song on it, so it's an easy choice.
2. The New Pornographers - Challengers
Though it came out a few months ago I just started to listen to it the last two weeks, and I really liked it (obviously, since it got the silver medal for this year).
3. Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger
After last year's three records, that, if I have to be honest, were shifting in quality. Don't get me wrong, I love the three albums that came out last year, but this year's release shows what he really can accomplish.
4. Kent - Tillbaka Till Samtiden
Kent showed this year that they really can change instruments from heavy guitars to synths and drummachines, and still be great. Generation Ex, Berlin, Columbus, cold as steel, but it makes me all warm inside.
5. M.I.A. - Kala
I just couldn't resist this album. It's not something I listen to normally, but like she's says herself "You can't put a label on my music", and that's true. The songs however gets inside my head, and stays there.
So there it is. My ramblings compiled into a list of some sorts.
Happy New Year!
