Nothing, actually. But if I had to describe why I like them, the beats are usually pretty interesting to me--from Exmilitary's primal/rockish standpoint to the glossy industrial-pop of Le Monkey Store and the barebones production of NLDW. It's also a bit of an enthralling rush to listen to Ride. Lyrically, I don't think he's really all that impressive (a few lines that get one hyped up and 'fun' to shout along with, is about it) but at least a lot of what he says works in the delivery. all in all, i've never listened to anything like death grips before (especially since i don't usually like abrasive music) and it's all very exciting to me.

what? dude. WHAT? you really didn't know? Yes! She still does! She was a rapper for her early career, then dabbled in drama before getting into more jazz-oriented music. I mean, I guess I can't blame you for not knowing, but even I'm not that knowledgeable of her career and still knew that. You're not even that much younger than me. Huh. I wonder if this is actually more common than I'm making it out to be. Weird.

Thanks man! You got awesome charts too. Lovin the Fang Island, Giraffes, and And So I Watch You from Afar. Some of my favorites too. Algernon were great both times I saw them. They know how to put on a great show. I got to see them in august right before they split.

what an exciting journey that will be! was the first artist/album you chose to listen to given with a lot of thought or did you just think, 'ah fuck it' and picked whatever?

Good enough, if you ask me. Musically, they aren't much. Vocally, they're not very good. And lyrically there aren't any real profound truths and some of it can come off as whining. BUT, it is with all the simplicity and raw, unrestrained songwriting that I can relate to them and get lost in the catharsis. I recognize why they're not for everyone, but often those same reasons make me love them so much.

if you don't think you know, you probably won't want to. as he is a member of new cancerous boyband One Direction and a total hottie. i mean, nowhere near as awesome as jake. but still.

Bwaha, feels good. But yeah, I'm totally a dude. There is certainly a minority of men in the field--at my school alone, in the past 3 decades, only 4 or so men have graduated from the program, but they're always glad to have guys around, even if the instructors are still a little too used to referring to everyone collectively as "ladies," ha.

Indeed. I got tired of the album by album thing, so I decided to put everything on shuffle. Lots of great shit I forgot I downloaded.

I wouldn't be so frowny about that; just shows I have way too much time on my hands devoted to listening to musics and a terrible sense of priority, ha. Oh, so has your second job search turn up with anything?

lololol, silly me. Well, CocknBullKid's "similar artists" are very much not. I'm ashamed to say that I'm not well-versed and can't point you to any artists, but she does remind me a lot of late 80s/early 90s sort of r&b/pop. It's one of those things I'm quite certain of intuitively, even if I don't know who it exactly reminds me of and I can't refer you, let alone myself, where to begin.

Oh, and "Fair Warning" by Penguin Prison. The self-titled album is pretty rad too.

Given your extensive tastes, I'm not sure what you've already heard. But my favorites this year have been Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes; Kimbra - Vows; Astronautalis - This Is Our Science. I've been listening to Grouplove - Never Trust a Happy Song and Los Campesinos! - Hello Sadness quite a bit lately too. Also, "Safe and Sound" by Capital Cities is possibly my favorite track of the year.

Too sweet, thanks. What'd you think of the other categories in the /mu/ awards? But yeah, I might just do that; I actually have added a lot of new things and it wouldn't be a bad way to get briefly acquainted with all of them and pick out which ones I'd like to explore more.

I don't shuffle that much any more, but I don't always listen to full albums either. Often, I'll just go straight to my absolute favorite songs or some I just really want to listen to. When my library was much smaller, I'd totally do that though, even as I'd find myself skipping a few things.

Yeah, dude. Not only is the THE MUDDAFUKKEN VOICE, but her Christmas album from the 90s is fantastic. Don't deny it.

Almost always listening. I've had to slow down a bit when I had work and school started back up and a few computer troubles in between, but yeah. I just have music on, a lot.

Looks like we still have in common the fact that Bad Religion is our top artist. Will we ever change.

Why, yes, I am! And yes, eclectic indeed!! How Stuff Works and The Onion next to Bad Religon, Lady Gaga, MF Doom, Bach, and Metallica. Lots of great stuff. Kudos for being an "openminded metalhead." :D Oh, and then I saw ABBA and instantly knew you were awesome.

thanks for the add! Great music. Didn't KC's bassist Tony Levin play bass for Peter Gabriel? Just curious.

I know this is a late reply. But yeah, Serj's first solo album is definitely worth checking out :) It's lighter than SOAD, but still awesome :D
