I would definitely recommend Mariza. She's amazing. Plus, Ana Moura, Mafalda Arnauth, Katia Guerreiro, Mísia, Cristina Branco and probably Camané and Carlos do Carmo (I'm not much into male Lisbon fado singers, male singers fare way better within the Coimbra fado - try José Afonso, an example of fado de Coimbra). If you're into classics, try Hermínia Silva (the first modern day known fado singer), Amália Rodrigues, Alfredo Marceneiro, Augusto Hilário, Ercília Costa, Francisco José, António Menano or Fernando Maurício. These are all I can think of as of now. Also, be sure to check Carlos Paredes, while not a singer, his take on fado is breathtaking.

Wouter, jij bent net naar "White Rabbit" van Jefferson Airplane aan het luisteren. Gisteren tijdens het eten zat ik met de woorden "chasing rabbits" in mijn hoofd, en ik wist echt niet uit welk liedje het kwam. Jona wist het ook niet. Dus toen ging ik het googlen en het bleek uit bovenstaand nummer te komen. Maar ik kende Jefferson Airplane helemaal niet, dus vroeg me af hoe ik dan op dat nummer kwam. En toen bleek het in mijn iTunes-bibliotheek te staan. Ik luisterde en had het duidelijk nog beluisterd want 'k herkende het. En nu ben jij daar ook naar aan het luisteren! Heb ik dat van jou ofzo? Kan me niet herinneren dat jij ooit muziek naar mij doorgestuurd hebt. In ieder geval zeer toevallig allemaal. Volgens mij is dit leiding!

We couldn't disagree more. There are reference points, and source material for everything in the Jody Watley bio. Facts of a career not "pure marketing" as you say. The artist has many accomplishments, in addition to a particular vision which continues to relate past, present and future. There's enough misinformation, misperception or lazy journalism which prompts people to edit or dissect without the depth of knowledge required - objectively I might add for a career which continues to span decades.
