Maybe The For Carnation? (post-rock, post-slint KY band). Os Mutantes (Baby is fantastic also see Gal Costa). few songs by Isabelle et les rats are good, think guitar, accordion, fem vocals. Karen Dalton, Keren Ann, etc. (just in case)
