Nighttheater Sugar Factory,
Amsterdam

Nighttheater Sugar Factory first opened its doors in April 2005, just around the corner from the Leidseplein in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Since then, the Amsterdam nightlife has been enriched with one unique concept. The multidisciplinary evening-and night program offers a stage to all sorts of cultural and artistic expressionist, next to but also during the club nights. This is why Sugar Factory is a true Nighttheater.


Nighttheater Sugar Factory creates a continuous integration of stage performances in order to develop and stimulate new, local and international forms of art, music, culture and theatre. In the Sugar Factory you might find factors, singers, musicians dancers, performers, visual artists, comedians and other stage performers.

The programming of Nighttheater Sugar Factory is very broad and usually exists out of an early and a late night. The early night often is reserved for stage disciplines like theatre, live music, dance, cabaret, fashion and literature. The performances during the early night usually have a separate entrance fee then the late night programs. The late nights are about progressive multidisciplinary project that take place in the entire space of the club, not just on the stage.


Nighttheater Sugar Factory is open from 5 nights a week, from Thursday till Monday. Thursday’s are called Vreemd (meaning strange) and this clubnight plays inventive underground music. Vreemd recently won a “Gouden Kabouter” for best new club initiative. Friday’s at Sugar Factory are colourful and a little extravagant. With warm sounds, a hint of fashion and a wink. Saturday night, well-known organisers like Jungstar (Zeitgeist), Electronation, Versch and Black Disco Bust, book talented dj’s, whilst the atmosphere always stays intimate and personal. Wicked Jazz Sounds fills Sugar Factory every Sunday night with their loyal crowd. They produce warm jazz sounds and dj’s and live musicians improvise together while the crowd dance. Every first Monday of the month Holland’s number 1 sax player Candy Dulfer has her own night. The other Monday’s are also packed with live music; regulars are the Konrad Koselleck big band, The Clipsters and Rumbata, Netherlands best-known Salsa big band.
