Eight Years of Last FM-ing

I am eight in website years, and I gaze into the past year. This year was a wasteland of scrobbling, as I was listening to music on a device from which I just could not scrobble. This has deeply affected my top 10, so I would have to think more deeply to be able to call out some other things to which I was listening over the past year. In summary, it was another year of calcification of taste. I have taken more time to listen to the massive pile of music I accumulated up to now, but it means that my tastes are less hipsterously diverse these days.

In an optimistic note, I now can scrobble again. So my last year is basically my last month.

The top 10:
Laibach
I've come around on these guys, particularly their NATO album, this year. A new one is set to drop soon. Not sure how excited I am about it, as it is rumored to be more overtly political. They tried that on Volk, and it only worked OK. The real genius of Laibach was taking pop content and showing that an innocent statement can actually be the fantasy of a totalitarian state (is there any better example than what they did with "life is life"?) When they state their own opinions, it gets a little uninteresting. Yes, I know the state is oppressive, but it is more engaging to see how Miley Cyrus is the one oppressing me.

On their latest, Revelations, they improved their lyrics somewhat. Their old hacky story attempts are gone, thankfully. It has always been an embarrassing task for me to listen to these euro groups, so this is a welcome change. The club mixes of revelations are not bad. Truth is, this is still guilty pleasure.

Carbon Based Lifeforms
New soundtrack album came out, and I liked it well enough. I've become more fond of their closer to ambient side. They've shifted that way as well. I should also have some solar fields on my charts, but they were lost in the scrobblefog.

Seabound
Found a remix / rarities album of their on google play. Nice HECQ remix of breathe on there.

This Morn' Omina
A great group. Creative and dark enough in their sound (though at the core, not really) to make it better than listening to straight up dance music.

Coil
Gives me credibility towards having taste. Most of the above does not.

Current 93
Hey, another boost to my cred! I've gotten a little bored with this lately, I guess I am just no longer in the mood for their mood.

Wolfsheim
Shocked this is here.

The Modern Lovers
Recommendation of Greg Proops. Overall, pretty wtf, though Pablo Picasso and its hilarious forced rhymes is a classic.

Ulver
This group is the peak of western civilization. Though now some of their older stuff seems really bad compared to the new. Messe is very interesting, though I've only recently gotten into it, it seems like it might not grow well on me.
