Sometime during the next days I want to play him some tunes of Soulsa's. I myself started as a freetime drummer as well, this was way back when I was 18. I started playing in a Free Jazz band in those days. Later I concentrated on congas and percussion and played more jazz (my first conga teacher was African, my second one, who toughed me for the longest part, is himself based in a more South American style/spirit). I love a good groove and rhythm, the latin - and also some African - musical spirit (I used to live for one year on Tenerife, Canary Islands, which politically belongs to Spain but the people's spirit is South American - and I absolutely loved it).

I saw your Shout and had a look at your profile, checking out the music you are doing with your band. At the moment I am listening to 'Cuidao' which I like a lot. It has still the more traditional latino roots plus a contemporary kind of rock touch. Very interesting! Is it write that you are living in New York? In this case I think I can see where the influence for the kind of 'rawness' comes from.
