If they took a philosophy photo at my university I would almost certainly have my eyes closed in it.

  • S0PHIE92

Haha, I can't believe your philosophy department takes a year photo. You look nice! I really like that jacket. Admittedly you do look a tiny bit like Anthony Perkins in Psycho in that photo but not in a murdery way.

I think I've found some more interesting places to go since you last visited.

I meant to say on IWD, I'm officially inviting you to Liverpool any time after the 4th April if you want to and you're free.

I remembered a thing, I really like this song. Also, I really think you would get on well with the North Korean woman from asylum link, she was talking to me about Heidegger and Sartre and Hannah Arendt and I was way out of my depth. I really didn't think anyone got out of North Korea so I wanted to ask her about that but I thought it was probably best not to.

I read that message as 'worshipped the Anglican Cathedral' and it made the story even more interesting.

Yes! For quite a while I thought that you had a cap on in those photos but I now realise that it was just a clock above your head. What was the situation here?

I did know that! I had a minor obsession with Baby Name books when I was younger (mostly because I was looking for names for my sims).

But seriously seriously, I've asked Cesca and Daisy too cause they're my other two favourite people but if you can find a job there we can definitely live together.

    Mês passado
  • S0PHIE92

I wasn't joking! It'd be so cool. You'd have to find a job before we moved though cause I can't afford to keep a bitch. I don't even know how much (or little) I'm going to be earning yet because I'm still waiting for the official letter to come through but my mom's already been looking at places for me to live. I still want to hear about your trip to London properly! Me and Cesca have been looking at airbnb apartments in Berlin and I was going to ask if you had any special air bnb advice.

Ah that is a shame, although the ship sounds cool. I think Daisy might be writing an essay on Larkin at the moment but I my also have made that up, I'm going to say that she was doing on on Larkin but now she's changed it to Sylvia Plath (another thrilling story). I myself (can you say that? i'm quite tired now) had what I think was an actual proper student night out last Thursday. I had to go on the film soc social (being President and all) and I ended up drinking about 7 drinks too many. I had the proper drinking experience of having no idea where I was, finding photos the next day of things I had no memory of doing (lying down in a pretend 'beach), feeling incredibly ill and being unable to move because I was scared that if I moved my head I would throw up. It was truly awful, I'm seriously amazed that so many people manage to go through that on a weekly basis.

I can't remember which comedy programme it was which said it was funny that in Britain 'bollocks' meant rubbish but 'the dogs bollocks' meant great. I don't know why that came into my head.

Thanks Simon, that makes me feel a lot better. You don't ever really sound pretentious because you don't say things to show off and you actually know what you're talking about. The pretentious people at university that drive me mad are the ones who just one to tell everyone how clever they are and how much they know when the majority of the time they are just talking bollocks.

centre. Nigel Farage was at the front waving his little British flag. I didn't! we went to the tintin shop but I wasn't aware that there was a museum too. There's lots of really cool street art around Brussels and quite a few of them are of tintin. Ah I'm sorry it didn't arrive, it was quite a shit postcard anyway because the man in the shop was being a little bit creepy (all the men in Brussels were way more creepy than they are here) so I wanted to get out quickly and grabbed the first card I saw (so thoughtful).

I'm going to be working for Mott MacDonald, I would tell you to read the about page on their website but it's so full of business speak that I can't understand any of it. As far as I know it's a huge worldwide private (but employee owned) organisation which takes part in engineering projects. Weirdly they also have a research branch which conducts social and economic research for clients (e.g. Local authorities, government departments, international organisations and other private organisations) in Liverpool,Manchester, Birmingham and London. The people I met from the company were really nice, I met one of them for coffee a couple of weeks before my interview at York Street coffee (we should definitely go when we're back in Birmingham, it's a lot like Bold Street coffee only bigger). Even though I didn't get to see much of the European Parliament the talk we had was really good and made the EU almost make sense. I also watched a really cool 360 degree video about it in the visitor...

I'm really making sure I appreciate not being constantly tired which no doubt I will be when I work 9 - 5. I generally just can't believe my luck that I was born here, to a nice family, at a time where I have actual rights rather than being the property of a man. Today I was talking to people from North Korea, Somalia, Syria and Eritrea and it's strange that we all ended up in the same room but they have had to go through such awful things to get here and I was just lucky enough to be born here. I find it really hard to understand when people say 'oh knowing my luck...' when we're probably some of the luckiest people in the world. (Sorry, I can't remember how I ended up on this rant).

It's alright, soz for late replying too (mostly last time when it took me about a month). I know the feeling, I have two essays due next week and one the week after that and up until last Wednesday I spent all of my spare time looking and applying for jobs. I can't remember if I already told you but I've started going to a conversation class at asylum link every wednesday and a 'women's group' every monday too (I just hang out with babies for a couple of hours really). I'm not keeping up with it all that well, it feels more like I'm going to university in my spare time rather than the other way around. Good luck with any essays you have left and of course your dissertation and applications. I'm massively relieved not to have to worry about finding a job but it has also made me realise (even more so) what a nice life I have now. I'm busy but doing things that I like, I have a nice house and nice friends and enough money and only a 5 minute 'commute'.

Before I forget, we had house coffee last night (it arrived on Monday) and it was very nice, you are a very kind human being Simon. Thank you kindly. I don't know if Cesca's replied to you yet but if she hasn't it's undoubtedly because she has to write 3000 words by Friday and she has only written 250 so far but I know she really appreciated it. We're all really excited by the origami book too, it's so cool.

Do you have any photos of Alex's card?! what exciting plans did you make?

    fevereiro 2014
  • S0PHIE92

I'm sure some other things have happened too. I had a bit of a quarter life crisis today. I think it was because me and Cesca were listening to songs I hadn't listened to since I was about 15 and because I was internet stalking Warpaint (as you do when you have 2 essays to write) and I just suddenly felt really sad that I've become a 'politics person' rather than a 'music person', whatever that means. (soz, this sounds well pretentious and self-obsessed)

  • S0PHIE92

I'm trying to think of exciting things that have happened since then. Me and Cesca went to see Her last night, it was really good (as long as you don't take it as being about a cute relationship between a man and his computer, which I don't think you are) and the soundtrack was beautiful, I really recommend it if you get chance to see it. I saw Warpaint on Thursday in Liverpool and St. Vincent in Manchester Cathedral (an incredible venue) on Friday. I had a job interview in Birmingham on Wednesday as well, I doubt I'll get the job but I was pretty glad to even have got an interview. I'm so glad I'm studying politics, they asked me loads of non-standard interview questions like 'What's the difference between old Labour and New Labour?' and then questionned me on Clause 4 when I said something about New Labour not being a socialist party. It was actually one of the most interesting conversations I've had for a while.

Anyway, I'M VERY EXCITED THAT YOU WENT TO LONDON! The whole trip sounds incredible and I'm so glad you got to see Doug, and you got to stay in a nice apartment and have interesting conversations. I don't think I did anything nearly that exciting that week. I went to Brussels on the 10th, it was really good. We didn't go to the European Parliament for long but it was reasonably interesting. Me and Cesca found the best coffee shop ever and went to the loo in the Magritte Museum (not actually going back to see the paintings is one of my biggest regrets) and to a load of other places. We got the flight back during the big storm and it was absolutely terrifying. We were flying with Ryan Air and the plane was swaying side to side, everyone cheered when we landed safely. I did send you a shit postcard but I suspect the 'letterbox' I put it in wasn't actually a letterbox after all cause I sent one to my grandma too but she said it hasn't arrived.

Sorry I've taken so long to reply! I've got into one of those 'so many things to do that you don't do anything at all' phases. It was only when I was telling Cesca today about how I really wanted to talk to you but I couldn't because it was me who hadn't replied to your message and she just thought it was hilarious. She called me a silly knob and told me to just reply which I knew all along but (fucking hell man, I've done it again, such an exciting story).

That card is incredible! Did your brother like it? FACT is showing all of Wes Anderson's films over the next month, I think I might be in Brussels when The Life Aquatic is on but I'm going to go and see The Royal Tenenbaums.

The Glow pt 2 is safely in my room in Birmingham. I've left it resting on top of Silver & Gold in my wardrobe. I'm glad you like the Bonobo album, one thing is the one I thought you wouldn't like. I don't mind it although it's not my favourite song on the album. Also I prefer the original. I switch it off before the Benedict Cumberbatch one too. I really like the word (name?) Zarathustra, I don't know why. I don't think you're omni-satisfied Simon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRLOf3bSlVs

Still, thank you for lending me the CDs. I know I've probably done that in the past and you're right. I kind of find it exciting that I was wrong about so many things when I was younger, it makes me wonder what false beliefs I have now. I suppose it's also kind of scary. I hope your exam went well. You remembered mine very well, I had philosophy of mind on Tuesday which went alright and Media and Human Rights on Friday which was not so good but still not quite as terrible as some of my past exams. It's been so nice to finish and have a week off, I've spent most of my time catching up on things I didn't do whilst I was revising but it's still a relief not to have a looming deadline or exam.

Sorry for the extremely late response, I started replying you to a few days ago and my keyboard just completely stopped working half way through, it was really odd. I turned my laptop off and on again and it fixed itself (a thrilling story).
