Hello mate - it has been a while! I've been really busy lately, so my life is quite filled at the moment. Working full-time and doing a degree, so I don't get much time at all. I'm okay though, thanks. How about yourself?

60s culture? Can't say I know much about that myself. They sure knew how to make good films though! ;) I'm in a similar boat to you, as you've probably noticed on the ol' Facebooks. I've not listened to many metal albums this year. I've checked a few 'best of' columns and have picked up recommendations from there. The general consensus is that Pallbearer's 'Sorrow and Extinction' is THE best metal album this year. I'll provide the electronic recs in another shout. Not much of a classical fan BUT I am developing an addiction to Max Richter's work. Have you heard him? The Blue Notebooks is worth investing time in, if you haven't already heard it.

Don't remember if I've already recommended this but check out Convextion's self-titled. Calm dub techno. http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/convextion/convextion/

Do you like the Japanese band Aus? I've been listening to the 'Lang' album today and it's pretty good IDM: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yoi33fkDEa8

Oh okay, I guess it wasn't something I'd been thinking about listening to a lot. I haven't listened to Cosmosophy yet either haha. I'll be getting round to that, though. I'm actually going through BAN at the moment. Oh brilliant, glad to hear you're doing well at university. I guess it's a lot of work for you but the rewards will be worth it I imagine. I'm not at the minute but I hope to be getting around to it soon before I'm too old! Everything else is okay, can't grumble about things at the moment. Working, watching films, listening to music and reading Dostoevsky. That's my state of affairs at the moment. A wealth of inspiration!

Hello mate, I still haven't no. How come? How you been anyway? Haven't spoken in a while, in fact haven't spoken to anyone in a while on here.

I've listened to only a couple of seconds to the new album. Wasn't in the mood for metal at the time but, did I hear right, it features clean vocals? Weird. How well you would say that fit in? They caught me off guard. A more melodic MoRT? That was one of their weaker efforts, in my opinion. XD I haven't heard it in ages though. Like the new BAN album, I couldn't get into Deathspell, AGAIN. I'll have to revisit when the mood strikes. I tried listening to it when I was on a walk and it wasn't very motivating so I had to switch it off. I'm glad you liked Venetian Snares. They really impressed me. Reminded me of how Saltillo mix modern classical into a dark, urbanised genre (trip-hop). Good stuff. It also caused me to search for more drum and bass, like The Third Eye Foundation, who are far darker. I also discovered a drum and bass equivalent to DJ Shadow's Entroducing..., or so the review I read said. Having listened to part of it, I can see why they'd say that.

As you picked up, I've only heard bits and bobs of Autechre's discography. What I did, I don't really remember. It didn't really captivate me, but that was when I had only just started exploring that side of music, so I haven't read too much into it. I saw your message the other day and decided to pick up Incunabula, which I have no experience of. I also added your other recommendations to my wish list, cheers. :) Although I already have a Squarepusher album on my iPod. I've been listening to some more Fleetwood Mac recently. Their self-titled and Tusk have been dominating my time. I think I might be starting to like their self-titled more than Rumours and I love that! Oh my.

Do you listen to any other artists considered drill and bass besides AFX? If you haven't already done so, you should give Venetian Snares a go. Specifically the Rossz csillag alatt született album: http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/venetian_snares/rossz_csillag_alatt_szuletett/

Did you ever watch Dr Strangelove? As of now, it is the only Kubrick film I've seen which I dislike. It had it's occasional moments of glory but, overall, I thought it was a letdown. His movies usually appeal to me greatly. I was blown away when I saw Paths of Glory, for example. Although I must admit to having watched that expecting it not to appeal to me at all. Heh. I did listen to They Played On and, I hate to say it, but I thought the album sucked! :( I'm not keen on bluesy stuff. I hear Rumors might be more my cup of tea.

Sorry for the delayed reply; my internet connection has been woeful recently. I think the scene you mentioned with the baby was fairly creepy. Didn't it explode towards the end? I forget. That was disgusting. I'll need to revisit it eventually, since my mind has gone blank. It doesn't help that I'm in a public place and the noise is drowning my brain cells. I do recall it seeming like a black comedy in parts, more so in the beginning/middle sections. Like the parts with the family dinner and such. In regards to The Straight Story, did you also read that the lead actor Richard Farnsworth killed himself soon after shooting the film? I remember reading somewhere that he had cancer. It makes the film all the more sad to me. I also thought Sissy Spacek's storyline was depressing as hell.

I'm pretty much in agreement with you there. I think it's great but nowhere near the level of 'Fas' or anything. I've only listened to it a few times, so I'll get back to you when I've listened to it more.

I see you've been listening to the LoC album, nice one mate, hope you enjoyed it. Really glad you liked the Revenge, I wasn't sure whether to recommend it or not with it being quite chaotic. As you liked it I implore you to get hold of "Hammer of Antichrist - History of Annihilation" by Conqueror; they're sort of a pre-Revenge band so very similar and just as (others would argue more) intense and unrelenting. You might like Seven Chalicies by Teitanblood as well, less chaotic than Revenge and closer to death than war metal but occult as fuck, truly great atmosphere. Same goes for Grave Miasma's Exalted Emanation. Sorry if I've already recommended some of these anyway, my memory's pish haha

I thought drugs might be involved somewhere. Psychedelic bands and drugs go hand-in-hand. Those conspiracy theories sound like something a desperate fan has made up to make either themselves feel better or Peter look better. Anyway, I got They Play On yesterday and will try to listen to it over the weekend. Have you watched The Straight Story yet? ;) It does seem like it would be a nice change of pace from Eraserhead, which freaked me out. It had one or two scenes which genuinely made me feel very uncomfortable. Well done, Lynch.
