Ever spent a year or so?

...with a melody or snippet of a tune rolling around in your gray matter? I think it started one summer as I was working in a warehouse riding a pallet jack. Bam! a tune jumps into my head as I round the corner of a rack of brooms. I thought I found the tune once or twice as a false alarm, but the song remained masked since the part that ingrained itself in my memory was short and had no lyrics. I knew it had an organ sound or Fender with the effect similar to one, It had a swell and it repeated.

I decided to break out my Creative Nomad Zen Xtra Jukebox a few weeks ago. It contained about 40g of songs I had deleted from my desktop hard drive. I have close to 5,000 tracks on it and was listening at work randomly. All of the sudden on my way home from the coffeeshop this morning it came to me Ironically - X-Ray Mind. It has a simple melody and cadence, but it stands out for some reason. I have been reunited w/ a song and it was Mad Season holding on in a dark alley for long 18 months not letting me forget.

I've had a few lesser known 80's tracks get stuck in my head. After a few days of having the song stuck in my head I will forget about trying to find out what it is. Then a few weeks later it will pop back up in my head. The process often repeats until I confirm what the song is.

I think that is similar to my experience except it was extended longer than any other song. I tried to purge it, it went away and like a boomerang it arrived on my car stereo courtesy of my mp3 player to end the silence.

I had what turned out to be Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones in my head for ages, then I listened to Forty Licks and all was clear.

I had this song in my head from about the mid eighties onwards and just regretted not buying the damn 12 when I could.

I had the lyrics to Polaroid stuck in my head for the last couple of months of 2006. I think that I heard it playing randomly on my computer as part of a shuffle at the same time that I heard Chips Ahoy! on the radio. That made me think that it had to be a song by The Hold Steady or some other similar-sounding band. I doubt that anybody could figure out the song by googling the lyrics.

...with a melody or snippet of a tune rolling around in your gray matter? all the time. if it's an experience that i have with other people though, like doing long-distance walking or holidays and the like, i make a mixed cd-r of all those tracks that i associate with that event so i can always play them and remember :)

I should try that... keep track, make a mix and call it amnesiac's trax or something. NHA-I couldn't watch that before, but the ban on video and email has lifted at work, so I got to check it out Thanks!
