Well, I guess mark the start of my next quarter-century (as I turned 25 today) with the start of a new journal. And what better way to start a new journal than with the oft-copied "mainstream rating"?
My top 20 artists and their number of listeners:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart -> 2,272,775
Ludwig van Beethoven -> 1,944,388
John Williams -> 2,577,468
Frank Sinatra -> 3,227,114
Franz Joseph Haydn -> 111,401
Sergei Rachmaninoff -> 295,554
Richard Wagner -> 251,947
Howard Shore -> 2,588,166
樹海 -> 14,374
Takada Band -> 2,000
Find the average, & divide by total number of plays for the most popular artist (i.e. Radiohead):
953620/30814794 = 0.03094
So my mainstream rating is 3.1%. To be honest, I'm surprised it's so high.
Of course, the results are a bit skewed since many of the artists I listen to have more overall global listens under different names…heck, #11 & #12 are both the same person, and I'm sure the Japanese artists have more listens under their Romaji names. Not to mention, #16 isn't a proper artist… chalk that up to bad entries in musicbrainz.
Eh, that's all for now.
