I appreciate your not judging me by my zip code not starting with a zero, but I have deep VT roots in St. J., Mt. Holly and Brattleboro (from N to S), which led to my being there for Deerhoof. And I dug Celestial Shores enough to buy their CD and Awkwafina (sp?) was fun too. And ADD or not, I am already looking forward to seeing Deerhoof again in November when they come back to LA. I have been humming a couple of their songs for weeks now, and I'm not sick of them. That has to mean something.

"Smoke each weed as if its your Last(.fm)" - Carl Sagans Ghost

"Happiness at the moment I scream it out, I sing it loudly.
In my idiot heart, idiocy sings loudly. Triumph!" - G. Bataille

Oh, Little Johhny caught a bullet last night
Running from the guitar store
He took a left down the alley, guess he shouldve gone right
Now he ain't taken nothing no more, more, more
Everybody knows it's a hard time
Livin' with hate and the greed
Most folks earn what they get for a livin'
Others steal what they need
Down on the corner, already talkin'
How they're gonna cut theat take
Im out here just workin' for a dollar
And all i wanna do is stomp and holler

Oh, eighteen years, eighteen years
That's a long-old time to be
Sittin' face down, stoned in the alley
Wonderin' how to get to that shinin' sea
Everybody knows it's a hard time
Livin' on the minimum wage
Ah, some people just gunna sneak on through
Others gotta rattle that cage
One of these days, im gunna fing my way
Or else just disappear
I'm out here in the filth and squalor
And all I wanna do is stomp and holler

Oh, rock and roll, ache and moan
Listen to the young girls scream
Every time I get a little bit lucky
I gotta wake up from a poor mans dream
Heaven only knows how we get there
After all this trouble and strife
From all Iv'e seen, you only get one shot
At what your'e gunna do in this life
Ah, what the hell, I guess I might as well
Take a chance and try my way
I'm like James Brown only white and taller
And all i wanna do is stomp and holler
Carll Hayes - "Stomp and Holler"

"I decline to accept the end of man. It is easy enough to say that man is immortal simply because he will endure: that when the last ding-dong of doom has clanged and faded from the last worthless rock hanging tideless in the last red and dying evening, that even then there will still be one more sound: that of his puny inexhaustible voice, still talking. I refuse to accept this. I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance." - W. Faulkner accepting the Nobel Prize for literature in 1950

P. Fry: "So I'm Important? What I feel like when I'm drunk is correct?"
Niblonian: "Yes, except the Dave Matthews Band doesn't rock."

"Mushrooms are strange things. Some look funny, others positively obscene. Out of four thousand recorded species, only five are unanimously deemed to be lethal. And out of these five, four are so rare as to desrve the label of "exotic".

Exotic, from the Greek exotikos, meaning from outside, from another place.

We know little about exotic mushrooms. Their classification as vegetal is till a subject of debate among botanists. Their methods of reproduction are so arcane that, even today, only three species can be properly cultivated. The way their toxins affect the human nervous system is largely a mystery. For example, the amanita muscaria not only induces aberrant behavior, but it also causes genuine amnesia afterward. How convenient. The coprinus atramenarius is not dangerous - except if you eat it while drinking alcohol. The two don't mix. The gyromytra esculenta is safe - as long as you cook it in an open pot. Apparently, its toxins evaporate during the cooking."- Randy & Jean-Marc Lofficier

When "god" built me, he forgot to attach my head to my body. Then "satan" came along, noticed that my body was empty, and subsequently filled it with "poison". I am doing the best I can, considering...

Did You Know?: The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is undeniably and without question the most important microbe in all of recorded human history. Your own decision of whether or not to consume alcohol has absolutely no bearing on the validity of this statement. The bacterium Escherichia coli ranks a close second, while the influenza virus and Penicillium sp. are tied for third place.
It's True!!

First one is over and done, but what a ride!

"To know love is to know love. The skies of America have had more changes to occur under them in this century than any other country: assassinations, political wars, gangster wars, racial wars, space races, women's rights, sex, drugs and the death of god, all for the betterment of the American people. What then is left to happen under the skies of America but the goodness, a country with so many changes within the nature of its people must have something very special for the world to enjoy since it has done so many things to change its own territory and mental relationships to each other. Love, hate, and lies live in the nature of all in some manner. America knows all three of these from the world and its people. Why, where and what is the purpose of a country that has the essence of mankind and the blessing of the skies. America is a young country. When it reaches one thousand years will its descendents care about the American Indians whose skies gave so much. All Americans know who, how, and why their existence came to be American regardless of the condition. If only then one could be as true as the skies of America." - Ornette Coleman

"As Stephen Jay Gould pointed out in a delightful analogy, we can account for any growth in the complexity of living organisms through a drunkard's walk effect. Imagine a drunk leaning against a wall. A few meters to his right is a gutter. If the drunk takes random equal-sized steps to his left or to his right then he inevitably ends up in the gutter. No force propels him to his right; he moves randomly, and at any time he is as likely to move to his left as to his right. But the wall eventually stops his leftward motion; over time, there is only one direction in which to move. Eventually, completely by chance, the drunk stumbles into the gutter. The same effect can explain any advance we might observe in the complexity of organisms. At one end we have a wall of minimum complexity that organisms can posses and still be alive. This wall is where life began, and where most life on Earth still remains. Over time, evolution tinkers with more advanced organisms; when life itself was young, that was the only available possibility - evolution could not try out simpler designs, because its path was blocked by the wall of minimum complexity. Some of the new designs worked, in the sense that the organisms were adapted well enough in their immediate environments to survive long enough to reproduce. And so evolution staggered on, like a blind drunk, tentatively producing organisms of greater complexity. After almost 4 billion years of random tinkering, we end up with the living world we see today. But there was nothing inevitable about the process; the purpose of evolution was not to produce us. Play the tape of history again, and there is no reason to suppose Homo sapiens - or any equivalent sentient species - would play any role at all."
- Stephen Webb, "If the universe is teeming with aliens... Where Is Everybody? Fifty solutions to the Fermi paradox and the problem of extraterrestrial life"
