My Uranium Tour Experience

Wed 18 May – Uranium Tour

I attended this show primarily for All That Remains so I will focus more on that portion of the show. After driving, in the rain, for about 3 hours (sure for about 30 minutes of that time there was no movement. Traffic sucks) I arrived at the venue @ 5pm. Meet & Greet with All That Remains which was pretty incredible. I have to admit I was a bit starstruck but those guys are 100% full-fledged awesome. One of the other people at the M&G told them "You guys are really down to earth" and Jason Costa (drums) replied with "We are just people dude." Of course Mike Martin's comment was spot on "Our job is better than yours, that is the difference." Oli Hebert wasn't there yet, Phil told us "Oli is at home doing things to his wife." After the quick M&G session we were ushered back outside. Doors open @7pm so commence waiting and more waiting. Doors opened, more waiting. Just before the show was set to kick off I noticed Mike Martin in the crowd, I approached him with one objective. He is by far one of the coolest guys I have ever met, rock star or not. Without hesitation he introduced to his group of friends, I told him "My friend and I are dying to hear 'Faithless' ".
"Sorry dude that won't happen. I don't even know that one, what number is that? Maybe on the next tour, we haven't even played that song together. We are faggots."
- "What songs off the new album are you guys playing tonight?"
"The intro, Last Time, Won't Go Quietly, Some of the People, & Hold On."
-"Awesome dude, I will catch you up there."
"Yeah, enjoy the show."

I was expecting Hail the Villain as the opener but instead got stuck listening to two bands I would rather miss. But that's neither here or there, my night was about ATR. After more waiting, now beyond the point of restlessness they took the stage. I could definitely see and feel that they were thrilled to be home (they all live in different parts of New England) Out of the songs they played the only ones I hadn't seen them play live were "Won't Go Quietly" and "The Last Time". I think "Won't Go Quietly" is more live-friendly than "The Last Time" however I don't see either song becoming staples of their live show. "Some of the People, All of the Time" on the other hand is one that I think will be part of their setlists for some time. After seeing them play it twice now, they definitely enjoy it and so does the crowd. The way Phil intros that one is fantastic "This is the heaviest thing you will hear all night!!" This was my third time seeing them live and Phil didn't talk as much as he did the previous two times. Makes for a more direct show but I do enjoy his commentary, love it when he verbally assaults a venue and its staff. I have to say the crowd was more mellow than I expected, it didn't get as out of hand as I originally expected. Although most of the crowd was their for Black Label Society, looked like a freaking biker convention. ATR finished the set and I definitely needed some fresh air, hit the merch booth, and proceeded to the back of the room for a quick exit. My friend isn't big on Black Label and frankly I didn't care either way. We caught Mike Martin in the crowd again and chatted with him a bit. As soon as the BLS curtain dropped I was immediately turned off. It is really tacky and just flat out retarded to wear your bands t-shirt while on stage. It was a great night overall but there were definitely a few things that got on my nerves. First, if you are going to a concert take a fucking shower before hand. Even if you don't usually and don't like taking showers or whatever. Do it not for yourself, do it for your fellow man. No one wants to smell your nasty odors. Have some pride in your self or at least respect for other people. Second, picking fights is retarded. Everyone at a concert is there for the same reason to enjoy music. Can't we get along for a few hours? If you can't handle your alcohol or don't know your limits, then don't drink. Lastly, If you are in a band don't wear your band's t-shirt on stage. Especially if you are the headliner, everyone knows who you are. Right out of the gate you lose credibility and my respect.

All That Remains Setlist:

-Now Let Them Tremble….(intro)
-This Calling
-The Last Time
-Forever in Your Hands
-Six
-Some of the People, All of the Time
-Won't Go Quietly
-The Air That I Breathe
-Hold On
-Two Weeks

As far as setlists go, this wasn't bad. I enjoyed every second of it however I think it's time to let This Calling go. It's great and all but I am a tad sick of it. I think bands should change their setlists up more often. Okay sure there are some songs that are staples of shows but I don't think ATR needs to play This Calling, Two Weeks, and Six at every show. Bring Tattered on my Sleeve back, take This Calling out. Also Two Weeks is not a closer. I think Indictment should close or The Waiting One.
