Good day!!- or now evening i should say... i don't know what it's like in Czech Republic, but it is goddamn dark and bleak in England at the moment- lots of rain and cloudiness haha anyway... Glad you like Paatos- their first and second albums are the only ones worth listening to from their discography in my opinion. Yes i remember watching a trailer of the RIO documentary and it looked amazing- loads of big names in the documentary like Chris Cutler and the folks from Univers Zero. Yes i am also interested in going to the RIO festival one day. Whenever i see bands these days i generally feel unimpressed, but quite the opposite i imagine if i went to the RIO festival. Maybe next year or something i might go, i don't know. Let me know if you do!

Už Jsme Doma are pretty great alright! I forget how I even heard of them, but I'm glad I did. Thanks for the recommendation. American Zeuhl! That's got to be a rarity.

I certainly recommend Morte Macabre, not so much Dungen :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sukrhOEeSiA

Yes i agree, Sweden has some of the greatest contemporary music, even their pop music is interesting. For example a band called 'Dungen' are quite an interesting listen. However, Dungen's music can sound a bit 'samey' (psychedelic sort of swedish pop/rock), but i like Tar det Lugnt the best. Anekdoten are one of my favourite bands, their music is a very under-rated in my opinion- particularly a beautiful track like 'The War is Over'- however their albums are not immediate like most/all prog music. If you like the dark side of Anekdoten, then i recommend a band called 'Morte Macabre'. To be honest, i can't really recommend a lot of bands, as over the last couple of years i haven't really checked extensively for new music. But i hope these small suggestions will do. i will try and think of some more for you. I have been listening to the Cardiacs and i love it! Thanks for getting me onto this band (I eventually got there). I am also loving Malko- thanks again.

Hey, what's up mate? Have you ever heard of an old Czech movie called "Spalovač mrtvol" aka "The Cremator"? Ironically, I found a fanmade video about this movie (here) with Univers Zéro as a soundtrack. It's a great movie, so dark and twisted, haha.

Yes i agree, it is the normally the musically intelligent/educated or open minded individuals who have more of an interesting or explorative music taste -not to sound arrogant or pretentious ( well maybe a little bit :P ) Pochakaite Malko is amazing, i have heard of them before but was too lazy to fully investigate them at the time. just listening to Laya. Thanks a lot for the suggestion. Yes i have heard Koenji and it is pretty good, very complex- anything with Yoshida is worth a listen i suppose. I'm hopefully going to watch Ruins in October. The Japanese certainly have an interesting culture like you said. Do you know any good Czech bands :D? Again, Cardiacs are another band that i have also neglected to listen to for some strange reason. From what i have heard, they are also amazing and i shall listen to them. Cheers, good day indeed to you too.

Hello . Good for you for emailing GBS- they are really friendly guys and deserve a bit more exposure in the music world. Haha, not to sound corny but you sound like a Czech clone of me or vice versa- we have pretty much the same music taste :P. It's hard to recommend a specific album of Anekdoten's. I enjoy 'Nucleus' which is a very dark/ distorted album and 'Gravity' which is good- might take a few listens to appreciate fully, but those are two great albums. Yes i know what you mean about chamber rock- some prog people hate it, some love it- i am with the latter. Univers Zero is amazing- seeing them and Magma would be amazing. Yeah Jaga is good, i became obsessed with their album 'One-armed bandit'. Keep proggin !!

Just noticed that you are going to 'Rock in Opposition'. i'm jealous. I would love to see Magma before i die.

Hello there! You have a very good taste in music. Yes Gösta Berlings Saga are a great new prog band. I saw them live in Sweden a year ago- they were excellent live. I would recommend a band called Anekdoten if you haven't checked them out yet. Greetings from the UK.

Yes, that was a great recommandation, thanks. They've skyrocketed to my Top 3 :) Here are some bands that you might like: Kayo Dot, Arcturus, OOIOO.

Apparently ^-^ Well, I mainly listen to the classic Magma albums (Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh & Köhntarkösz) so I don't know what to expect from their new work (that might be a good thing) but I'll try to check it out. Right now, I'm mainly into Thinking Plague and I absolutely love every album they've made (especially "In This Life" & "In Extremis"). You can listen to "Once upon a time in Belgium" here if you're interested, the quality is pretty decent but an official recording would be better, no doubt.

I probably won't attend it either. It's pretty far from where I live and it's lost in the middle of nowhere. You're right though, the line-up is pretty interesting but not as good as the one from last year. They posted a great report about last year's show on a French blog with interviews from UZ, Present and Aranis members (audio) and that was really interesting to hear them talk about the RIO movement. The piece they created for last year's event "Once Upon a Time in Belgium" is pretty mind blowing... Ať žije Česká republika (Don't know if it makes sense, heh).

That's good to know hehe. I didn't even know the genre existed 2 years ago but now it might very well be my favourite (Great musicianship and the music is far from being soulless most of the time). It's quite unfair that most of the RIO/Avant-prog bands are totally unknown but not surprising...
