Yeah I'll fly up there and then we can walk to Stella Natura together, but you have to give me a piggy back ride too sometimes.

That would be *awesome.* I'm getting the suspicion that one of her training missions will be to kill someone she's close to and it'll lead her to snap and quit, but I'm hoping she'll be given a mission to take out someone that loathsome first. I also want Ramsay Bolton to die in the most painful way possible.

Barristan's chapters were pretty great, yeah. I think Martin has said Varys knows too much to be a POV character. The only other characters he's said that about are Littlefinger and Howland Reed; the latter is another piece of evidence people generally consider to make R+L=J likely.

Anyway things were obviously starting to happen at a much faster pace towards the end of Dance, and as long as he keeps that pace up I think a resolution within seven books should be manageable. Large groups of characters are now in roughly the same geographic location now, so there should be a lot less need for travelogues in the next couple of books.

Actually his first three chapters are all titled Reek, but after that he doesn't stay under the same name for any of his chapters. I posted the entire chapter list here, inside a pair of spoiler tags. I haven't heard that rumour and it doesn't seem all that plausible; I expect George to attempt to finish the series in seven books because seven is an arc number in the series. It might end up having to be split again, but I doubt he's intentionally going to shoot for more than seven. As long as he attempts to keep the plot threads moving, it should be do-able in seven; we have to remember that much of the material in the last two books is material that GRRM initially intended to convey in flashbacks after the five-year gap he was originally planning. Given how much of it there wound up being, it's pretty obvious why the five-year gap didn't work.

I didn't mind the Dany chapters much because I felt they did a good job conveying the tedium rulers often have to go through, although they certainly are far from the most interesting chapters in the book, and she acts kind of stupid in a lot of cases. However the payoff at the end more than makes up for them. Her last two chapters are two of the best chapters in the book. That said there were a lot of great chapters in this book, especially Bran's, Theon's, Davos', Arya's, Jaime's, Melisandre's, and Jon Connington's. And yeah I sure hope we don't get a Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson type scenario if Martin dies. Hopefully they'd get someone at least half-decent to finish the series like Sanderson.

For the most part I loved it, although I was kind of FFFFFUUUUU GEORGE I HAVE TO WAIT AT LEAST ANOTHER TWO YEARS? at the ending. Cliffhangers are even more major than any previous books, although there are two major characters I don't believe are dead.
