Good afternoon to you, and I hope you did well on those exams. I'm still in the middle of mine, so. I love Tarkovsky, and I'm glad you do too. Have you seen The Diving Bell and the Butterfly before I mentioned it?! It's so awesome, and beautiful, and the beach scene is really the one that stuck with me the most, along with the one where he was recalling his affair with that girl. I love Murakami, and I read Kafka on the Shore, Norwegian Wood, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, After Dark, and I still want to read Sputnik Sweetheart. I'm currently reading Sophie's World, a history of philosophy in the guise of a novel. About those surreal films, I recommend you try Jan Svankmajer's short ones. They're surreal claymation, so it's something almost out of this world. And about silents, I really recommend Alice Guy-Blache, a french woman who was the first woman director ever. I also recommend Georges Melies, also French. More French cinema then! Breathless (Jean Luc Goddard)...

Hmm, well, Uaral for me would be nights in cold forests, probably eating nothing at all. =D

I love French, Korean, and Eastern European cinema the most. Some of my favorite directors are Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Julian Schnabel, Béla Tarr, Roy Andresson (Swedish), Luis Buñuel, Kim-ki Duk, Guy Maddin (who I realize is American, I'm trying to exclude Hollywood directors as much as I can, but I couldn't really resist him, he makes modern silent cinema, so he's awesome), there's also Jan Svankmajer. I'm also into surrealist, avant-garde and silent cinema. But movies I recommend include French ones like La Haine (1995), Delicatessen (1991), The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007), and two Korean films Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring...(2003), Time (Shi-gan). If you'd like a link or two to some short surrealist and silent cinema, do let me know! =)

Well, Vanilla Sky used to be pretty impressive to me as a film back when it was released, before I discovered good and real cinema. But I cannot imagine sitting through it now. =D I did feel that way for a while with doom and death metal, actually. But fortunately not post-rock yet. And why cappuccino with Rokurro!? I don't understand this one at all! They strike me as more of a "eating fish in the midst of cold, snowy landscapes" kind of band. =D Yeah, I was very disappointed with Lies I Sire. I thought of it as nothing compared to their older stuff, and the use of violins in it was not even good enough like before. I'm gonna listen to the tracks you sent and give you feedback soon enough.

Oh, about MDB... I actually stopped listening to anything new from them since my huge disappointment with With Lies I Sire. And yes, I'm waiting for Saturnus' new release. =)

I'm glad you liked it. =) You actually won't believe what introduced me to Sigur Rós in the first place! When I was younger, I was so fascinated by Iceland (still am) so I was looking from music from there, and naturally the first thing that came up was Sigur Rós. Takk... is special for me for that reason, specifically Gong. Well, I know Arctic Plateau, but not the specific track. And this is the first time I come across that band, and I do like the track a lot specially towards the second half of it. Okay, speaking of Iceland http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrqu8bTO6BQ And sensual guitar sounds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0OtDsJLHZo

Actually, Explosions in the Sky were among my very first experiences with post-rock... Maybe right after Sigur Rós (which I realize are not purely post-rock), anyway, I loved the "winter celebration" track you sent along. That band strongly reminds me of Agalloch, which I love. Okay, returning the favor... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbkJkd6YBak
