moon deep at 2am is a globalized tag (spring, 2011) I've been playing non-stop. I'd say there are about 600 tracks involved.

With maybe a dozen exceptions, these are jazz standards and most often there are a few or several or many versions of the same song. ("Round Midnight," for example. Everybody has a crack at it.)

The living artists include Abdullah Ibrahim, Anthony Braxton, Anton Schwartz, Archie Shepp, Barry Harris, Charlie Haden, Clark Terry, Chris Cheek, David Sanborn, Dizzy Reece, Ellis Larkins, Ernie Henry, George Benson, Hank Crawford, Hank Jones, Harry Allen, Horace Parlan, Howard Riley, Jimmy Cleveland, Jimmy Heath, Keith Jarrett, Lou Donaldson, Marcus Roberts, McCoy Tyner, Michel Legrand, Roland Hanna, Roy Hargrove, Sonny Rollins, Stanley Turrentine, Stan Tracey, Wayne Shorter, Wynton Marsalis, Yusef Lateef.

In general, the instrumental renditions are heavily dominant (about 10 to 1) and there are many more horns than pianos. but if Billie Holiday recorded a version it's probably in here. There's also some (though much less) of jazz singers Anita O'Day, Bessie Smith, Betty Carter, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Ivie Anderson, Lee Wiley, Lena Horne, Maxine Sullivan, Louis Armstrong, Peggy Lee, Sarah Vaughan, etc.

Alongside those are a dozen superb jazz singers from the present day, as well as several artists from other genres who have nonetheless made excellent recordings of jazz standards. Mingled here then are Aaron Neville, Andy Summers, Annie Ross, Aretha Franklin, Bill Henderson, Bobby Caldwell, Bryan Ferry, Claus Hempler, Dakota Staton, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Della Reese, Diana Krall, Dianne Reeves, Ernie Andrews, Elvis Costello, Jimmy Scott, Joni Mitchell, Leon Russell, Nancy Wilson, Rickie Lee Jones, Tony Bennett, and Willie Nelson.
