Miles Davis has long since surpassed the 1,000 landmark on your last.fm, and I'm happy to report that he will soon breach that for me. Very soon, all of my top 50 artists will be over 1,000 scrobbles, in fact. That's a statistic I wasn't sure when I would ever see. Also, hello!

You haven't been scrobblin' much, old friend, but I see you have some Julia Holter in recent tracks. Very fine, indeed. I'm currently playing one of the bands you've listened to much more than I have: Califone. Always a pleasure to visit them, even if I don't quite as often.

Greetings. I do hope you've been ship-shape of a sunny disposition lately. I've not heard from you in a spell and I assume the world has cast a spell upon you. I'll catch you again sometime.

What has become of Mike and his many, many dreamscapes? Also, I'm obligated to say something about music here, so I'll state that Bish Bosch is a strong competitor for my AOTY throne. It may have swiped that spot from Until the Quiet Comes.

Wow. You've listened to Japandroids a lot. Is that your AOTY? Not that it should be based solely on listens, as counted by last.fm. Have you listened to Laurie Anderson yet? Specifically: BIG SCIENCE. Such a marvelous soundscape she creates. Humorous, too. Anyway, hope you've been well.

Also, it's amazing how long it takes me to 'discover' artists like Townes Van Zandt, Mickey Newbury, Curtis Mayfield, Squeeze, and such. Hell, I hadn't even listened to Randy Newman before Christmas 2010 and now he's a top 50 artist and his performance with the Cleveland Orchestra last year was my concert of the year. Heh. To a lesser extent, I also love John Lurie and Jacques Brel now, and neither of those were really on my radar before. In early 2010, I recall dismissing Jacques Brel as that guy that made for terrific Scott Walker covers, but no one really listens to him. Ha. What an idiot I was/am.

Hey! Your last.fm time is off again. It says you're scrobblin' Beach House "in 54 minutes." Unless the website has gained insight into future events. Predictive scrobbling! Let's toss some darts and listen to Sebadoh sometime, yo. Ha.

... then the devil is six, the devil is six, the devil is six ... Anyway, how's the new Tindersticks? I've only listened to their first three albums, once each. And what do you think of the new Magnetic Fields?

The new Cohen leaked! I only recently checked out his newer material, and for the longest time I had ignored New Skin for the Old Ceremony, likely because the album art wasn't so appealing. Ha. But I'm excited to give this a listen. And I have five Monk albums, but haven't listened so much, so I'll get back around to it. What's your favorite Miles and Monk? For Miles, I'd say mine are In a Silent Way and Sketches of Spain, though that isn't to undersell Kind of Blue and On the Corner, of course. Wish I could afford this upcoming Sharon Van Etten/Shearwater show in Columbus on Valentine's Day. But yeah, take care.

I like this new last.fm feature where you can see how much your friends have listened to an artist directly from the artist page. Other artists aside, I'll probably never catch your Miles Davis total. And I have no idea how you've listened to Ege Bamyasi 38 times. Ha. Generally speaking, only newer albums tend to receive excessive attention from me. Hell, I haven't even listened to Rain Dogs that much. But for older artists with large discographies, that's usually because I'm trying to give relatively equal attention to their catalog, or at least not overlook things. Anyway, it might be about time for our annual rendezvous, right? Ha, hope you're well.

What are Michael S's favorite albums of the 80s? Any irregular choices? I just compiled a rudimentary list and was wondering if you had any sidewinders. Also, you should greatly consider the free Das Racist show at Rock Hall on Wednesday (Twin Sister are playing the same day in Pittsburgh, not to mention Animal Collective which sold out). Carli and I are going to the Das Racist show, though, then will visit Market Garden Brewery for the first time. It opened recently within walking distance of Great Lakes, I believe. How do you feel about this Moonface album? Been meaning to upload that to the group, too.
