    I'm a huge fan of operatic, choral, orchestral and of course, ambient. I'm not sure if you're into vocals or not, but I've recently listened to the following:

    Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra And Allmäna Sången, for the Distant Worlds (Music from Final Fantasy): Opera "Maria and Draco"

    - I felt this surge of utmost melancholy; it was like the strings of my heart were being jerked by the tenor when he sang of his love for Maria. A truly wonderful masterpiece, and the best rendition I've heard so far. They recently came to Singapore for a concert, but sad to say, the soprano and tenor from Singapore (they're not the same for each country's tour) did not convey the meaning and feeling of the song properly as I felt they were not in character at all. Empty singing, which was sad. But have a listen to the lyrics, and it's actually quite sad.

    Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra & Nobuo Uematsu for the Distant Worlds (Music from Final Fantasy): Memoro de la stono (memory of a stone)- another melancholic one that will tug at the strings of your heart. A piece that conveys a surging, albeit stifled hope, a crying out of sadness for a soul tortured. A truly amazing piece that will make you tear.

    You can check out other artistes as well, such as Hayley Westenra and Chloe Agnew, two member of Celtic Woman. Their voices are so beautiful, like angels that you cannot help but feel rooted to your spot when you hear them sing.

    The world is beautiful because of music!

    Cheers

    Frederic Chopin: Nocturne No. 1 in B flat minor, op. 9, No. 1;
    Pink Floyd: A Great Day For Freedom;
    In This Moment: The Promise (Into the Light); and
    Karl Jenkins: Pie Jesu (from Requiem)

    All of these tracks *should* be playable here in some form save the Floyd and ITM tracks.

    I actually wrote an LJ entry while listening to the Chopin piece, if you'd like to read it:
