    Tori Amos - Crucify

    Quotes:

Every finger in the room is pointing at me
I wanna spit in their faces
Then I get afraid what that could bring
I got a bowling ball in my stomach
I got a desert in my mouth
Figures that my COURAGE would choose to sell out now

    Why do we crucify ourselves
    Every day I crucify myself
Nothing I do is good enough for you
    Crucify myself
    Every day I crucify myself
And my HEART is sick of being in chains

    Tori Amos - Black-Dove (January)

    Quotes:

    black-dove, black-dove
    you’re not a helicopter
    you’re not a cop-out either, honey
    black-dove, black-dove
you don’t need a space ship
they don’t know you’ve already lived
on the other side of the galaxy

But I HAVE to get to TEXAS
And I'd give away my blue dress
    because cowboy
the snakes they are my kin

    Charlotte Martin - Step Back

    Quotes:

    My days have been better
    My days have been worse
    In this world of thorns
    The more I keep talking
    The less they keep hearing
    Since I was born

    And it goes so fast
    Gotta make it last
It's so hard to remember to wait
    To wait
    And take a step back

Danny Elfman - The Little Things

    Quotes:

    With a mountain of maybes
    And some Icarus wings

    I can deal with fate
    But not the little things

    Tori Amos - Rattlesnakes

    Quotes:

    Jodie never sleeps 'cause
There are always needles in the hay, hey

She says a girl needs a gun these days
Hey, on account of all the rattlesnakes

Tina Dico - Count to Ten

    Quotes:

There are faces, there are smiles, so many teeth, too many arms and legs
And eyes and flashing buttons all around me
    I’m a-watching, I’m a-breathing, I’m a-pushing, I’m a wishing
That these walls would not be talking quite so loudly
I have lost it once before I’ve pulled myself up from the floor
And I am looking for a reason to stay standing
But sometimes it’s just too much or not enough or something else
It’s so much bigger than my head, it’s too demanding

Sometimes the fastest way to get there is to go slow
And sometimes if you wanna hold on you got to let go

So, I've been listening to Shearwater's Animal Life every day of the New Year. It is a very, very beautiful tune with some of Jonathan Meiburg's finest vocals. Although it sounds so very cheerful and bright with splashes of light, the lyrics seem to be rather serious (and very poetic! :)). I wonder, is it about the ability of wildlife and nature to thrive even in the most unrealistic places? Or is it rather alluding to the wild aspect in man, in ourselves, that got lost in our evolution (like the title of this entry says)? Or even both? It makes me even more excited for Animal Joy. I'm dying for more. ;)

  • How Is that even Possible?

    Set 17 2011, 9h33

2011 is more and more becoming a blessed year of music. Many of my favorite artitsts have released or are working on new music. Almost every month I have something to be excited about, something musical to look forward to. There has not been a year like this ever before. It's almost too much since I'm also discovering new artists all the time. :D I'm not even through all of it and there's such good stuff.

The best of the past months:
Tori Amos – Night of Hunters
    Carter Burwell – True Grit
    Kate Bush – Director’s Cut
Alexandre Desplat – The King’s Speech
    Brooke Fraser – Flags
    Amos Lee – Mission Bell
Charlotte Martin – Dancing on Needles
Thomas Newman / Richard Ashcroft – The Adjustment Bureau
Okkervil River – I Am Very Far
    Within Temptation – The Unforgiving

    Not bad:
Jessie J – Who You Are
Lady GaGa – Born this Way

    Coming up and very promising:
    Björk – Biophilia
Kate Bush – 50 Words for Snow
    Evanescence – Evanescence
Florence + the Machine – Ceremonials
    Nightwish – Imaginaerum
    Snow Patrol – Fallen Empires

My latest flame is the challenging but enchanting Night of Hunters by beloved Tori. Very seriously, already candidate for album of the year. I've got it only one day but it's expanding its grace, beauty and epicness.

Kate Bush releasing two albums this year was the biggest surprise. But we've been waiting, so it's a great gift. I am extremely excited about 50 Words for Snow. I don't know what to expect but I guess that's unnecessary when it comes to the Grande Dame. Kate will make something special, no doubt.

Shearwater's new album is in the making and is supposed to come out in early 2012. Again, they cannot fail. Not really, anyway. They belong to the reliable ones when it comes to their music.

It might be too much to take in. However, I'm more than happy about this great year of music and the following months. Let's go again! :D
  • "Born This Way" - My Ideal Version

    Jul 5 2011, 23h11

After listening quite a bit to the deluxe version of Lady Gaga's new album, I came to really dislike some of the songs. I think the album would do better without them. Here's my edited tracklist:

    1. Marry the Night
    2. Born This Way
    3. Government Hooker
    4. Judas
    5. Hair
    6. Bloody Mary
    7. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
    8. Bad Kids
    9. Fashion of His Love
    10. Heavy Metal Lover
    11. Electric Chapel
    12. The Edge of Glory
    13. Yoü and I

"Americano" doesn't go anywhere for me. "Scheiße" has got some moments but the lyrics are terrible, cannot listen to this anymore. "Highway Unicorn" may fit the album theme but I find it too weird with the other songs. And "The Queen" is just blah. Also, I think "Yoü and I" makes a better album closer than "Edge of Glory" - it is way more special. The rest of Born This Way is much better than I expected: really good pop music! :)

Current favorites: "Marry the Night", "Black Jesus + Amen Fashion", "Heavy Metal Lover" and "Yoü and I".
