• 6 Songs of Life & Death

    Abr 6 2008, 15h32

Recently, I was given a cool assignment at school (as backwards as that may sound...)...

It was something like this: You are to select 6 different songs and write a few sentences around each of them, what they mean to you and why you picked them. Your theme is to be "Life & Death".

I'm just curious; which songs would you pick?

    Thank you!! ;)
  • Track wikis!

    Jun 16 2007, 18h42

I just thought of something - wouldn't it be great if last.fm had a wiki-section, like we do on the artist profiles, for each track? I mean, for famous Beatles songs etc., it might be fun, and very interesting to read the stories behind the songs!

The catch to all of this though must be the fact that it would take a lot of work from the staff to make sure all the wikis have got good standards..

So, please comment, and tell me what you think!
  • Grande Finale of the Creative DTS & Festival of the Nations, Herrnhut, Germany - two…

    Jun 1 2007, 23h23

OK so I thought I'd write a little about the Festival of the Nations (a conference within a Christian organization called Youth With A Mission (YWAM)), but since this is still last.fm, I'll write a bit about the music.

First of all, since it was all played in large tents, the music had a special outdoors-y sound, which was great for some artists, giving them another dimension.. One artist to mension is the Indian Benny Prasad, a wiz at the guitar. I'm telling you, he's the best guitarist I've ever seen (heard)! His guitars are custom designed, so he's got two drums, guitar and a harp-like instrument I can never remember the name of all in one. It's one CLASSY guitar!

So enough on Benny. The worship-leader-ess there was amazing too, she's a great singer and very tender for hearing God's voice, which is defnitely #1 when it comes to worship.

I also got hooked on some bands like Skillet, Pillar and P.O.D while in Germany.

Tonight I also visited the "Grand Finale", the graduation of the local DTS (Discipleship Training School) which focuses on creative gifts.. Wow. Some of my friends were performing, and then I met some other
peeps I haven't seen for a while.. Fun.
Anyhow, my point was: the music was great. If you have a YWAM centre near you and they're throwing a DTS, please make sure they have a public graduation-thing like that!! :P
  • My Chemical Romance - are they really as bad as we make them look?

    Mai 2 2007, 20h06

OK guys so I was listening to some of My Chemical Romance's stuff the other day, and a this thought came to mind.
Now, don't get me wrong, I am not in any way a fan of them, they're simply a very boring band with disturbing makeup in my honest opinion.

But I just wanted to raise this little, but very offending question for some, are they really as bad as we make them seem?
This hatred may have different origins, such as:

    • Being overplayed at MTV/Mainstreamness.
    • Sorry, but this isn't actually a valid reason for not liking a band. This is t's actually a good thing for the band involved, as more people hear their music and enjoy it. Besides, it's not their fault. (I guess I can't really relate to this as they aren't that popular over here, but they're still a bit played.)

    • Fake use of the tag .
    • This one I can relate to, but come on, this is not the band's fault!!
EDIT: OK maybe it is partially...

    • Heavy use of makeup.
    • What does this have to do with their music?!

    • "ness".
    • This may well be the most stupid argument I've ever heard. The following artists (and one band :-)) Antony Hegarty (Antony from Antony & The Johnsons), Freddie Mercury, Scissor Sisters, Mika (Michael Penniman), Annie Lennox and so on are also gay. And besides, we don't really know whether or not MCR or any of their members are actually gay, do we now?

    • Their fans.
    • A huge problem for this band is **~*~*~** ThOsE LiTtLe KiDs DeLiBeRaTeLy TyPiNg LyK Diz 'N MiZsZpElLiN So U WoNdEr HoW oLd DeY aRe``**~*~*~**´´.. You have no idea how much this annoys me. Ramones had a nice quote to go here: Beat on the brat, beat on the brat, beat on the brat with a baseball bat!
MCR can't really do much about this either though.

    • And finally: their music.
    • This is the only argument I can tolerate for not liking MCR. If you, like me, simply can't stand the music, you can genuinly say you don't like My Chemical Romance. But if you recognized yourself in any of the above, forget it.

Now, I hope you understand more of what I mean. Even I can listen to most their music without turning off, and I suspect that unless you're a (extreme!! I am at least one of these!) true metalhead, trance/dance maniac or conservative indie-fan, you can tolerate their music being played.

And to end this: please, please, use you hate-energy on people like Hillary Duff and Paris Hilton (can't believe I just typed artist there in the BBCode :P).

  • A journal on the falseness of what some people would call punk!

    Fev 18 2007, 10h30

Yesterday I looked over the tags "" and "", and the result was disturbing.

On punk, #1 was Green Day. Further down the list was dominated by bands like NOFX, blink-182, AFI, Misfits, My Chemical Romance and Sum 41.

The "" tags are pretty much the same, Green Day on top followed by the same artists only in a different order.

But then again, we've still got some good bands out there in the sea of mistagged music. Such as: The Clash [which is only one tag away from reaching #1 on the list], Ramones, The Offspring [which may be a little non-punk, but accepted for now], Sex Pistols, Dropkick Murphys etc.

What's really frightening, is that some people think bands like Ramones and The Clash are awful, but they love punk. That's probably got something to do with their amateurishness in sound and distorted vocals, but come on, that's a part of what you would call punk, isn't it? Click here (-->) to see what Wikipedia says are the charachteristics for punk.

I'm gonna end this journal with a quote: "We need change, we need it fast, before rock's just part of the past. 'Cause lately it all sounds the same to me." -Dee Dee Ramone.
