Hey thanks for the friendship Cian. Here's a free sampler of the first album "21st Century Redemption Songs", if you want it. All the best, Unquiet Nights. https://essentialcredential.bandcamp.com/album/21st-century-redemption-songs-album-sampler-2

Hey stranger, how's tricks? What's the Tool verdict from the weekend?? I see you caved for ATP...I'm so, so close: The Jesus Lizard would be a nice addition to my list, hmm... Hope everything's going well anyway :)

Not a whole lot happening on the gig front tbh. We're deprived over/up here. Saw Earth a while back which was an experience and Lanegan of course was his usual masterful self. You've been to one or two yourself by the looks of it! Who needs sleep eh?

Ah sure it's deadly that we're keepin' the language alive and all. 'Twould be bolloxed otherwise.

A bit? And Abe Lincoln is only slightly dead! Music addiction is a terrible thing. I got started on a few cassettes, figured it was just a harmless bit of craic and look at me now..

Aye, I saw it on setlist.fm so I thought that must've been it. Wasn't a bad song really, looking forward to hearing where they'll go with an album. After the other night, I kind of feel like it's time for them to move on. It was a good show, but I didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as last time; Nick not being there didn't help matters.

...all the best for Soundwave too - who are you (definitely) seeing?

    fevereiro 2013
  • just_corn

I'm gonna do Cherry, and then go from there. If either or both are particularly awesome I'll consider the side shows. I'll have to brush up on a few of the other bands playing, squeeze the most out of my (very reasonable) $70. PS. 2 days to go!!

  • just_corn

Oh, I enjoyed it, of course - but they didn't exceed any expectations I had. Think the set was better the last time around. Still. It's Kyuss (nearly) and I certainly have no regrets! Was pretty pleased to have a Unida flyer shoved in my face on the way out, too :D

I guess you missed the FNM boat - they broke up when you were like, 8, haha. They'd probably be top of my charts along with Grinderman if my home stereo and portable music scrobbled. If a genie popped out of my speakers and granted me one live band to see, it would be them. Who would you see...any band, right now (that you haven't seen before)?

  • just_corn

...why is it everyone seems to have seen Faith No More except for me? When was that??

    fevereiro 2013
  • just_corn

Ouch. N's still fine though, that's where I was for Soundgarden and it was great. I'm H, end of the left bank. All the seating there is pretty streamlined I think - it's the cattle-GA and 80% impeded-viewing balcony tickets you need to steer clear of. I can't believe the pricing between the sections is so marginal. I'm generally a very relaxed person but you should see what Ticketmaster does to me: I had to buy a bunch of my workmates presents the day after the Cave tickets went up to try and compensate for the completely unacceptable language that I was using. Grrrr...!!

I'm so freakin' excited!!! Where are you sitting?

  • just_corn

Don't hold back now - I get the feeling that was the censored version too ;) I guess it's just a reflection of where he is now - the guy's married with kids & lives at the seaside. Swans and Opeth both copped it for their new albums too, because they didn't sound like the older, angrier stuff. Progression and change, it's the way of the world. Don't worry - Push The Sky Away will probably be your favourite album when you're 40...

...also, I'm pretty sure you were 22 the last time I looked at your page. Happy Birthday!

    fevereiro 2013
  • just_corn

Elaborate. I like it - I think it's too short, but I like it. It lacks that trademark Cave 'edge' (could he be mellowing?) but it's a beautiful album, in an understated sense. I think it will be much better live than on record...keep the faith! ;)

Nice one! It's starting so early...the whole point of going was to see JP, hope I can make it in time. Let me know if you want to say hi, I'll inbox my number. Otherwise, enjoy! :)

Oh come on, you can do better than that: Highlight(s)? How were Einsturzende? Can't say I'm especially looking forward to the HiFi after a 35 degree day, but I'm sure Crime.. and a few beers will make it bearable :)

I don't know where you live, but you would have just heard me squeal...

  • just_corn

Spoil! You're right though, the prospective setlist isn't exactly rocking my world...you never know though: it's all in the delivery and the man can deliver. Cool video!! Dig his moves. I haven't progressed past the initial few listens of Push The Sky Away but immediately loved the feel of it. I'll have much more to say on it over the next week. Swans tonight were brilliant (in an insanely intense, permanent-loss-of-hearing kind of way). There's no way in hell I'm sleeping tonight. Have an amazing time at ATP! Let me know how it goes...

And I thought I was wise for my age! You take the cake :) There was some sort of universal discretion against me seeing Nick Cave in any form to date...every time there was a reason I just couldn't make it, so it's mostly justifiable for me. Still, I agree with you - he's making a pretty penny from the Oz shows. I guess I should be glad I have no true comparison for the bowl, other than Soundgarden which was great once they managed to sort things out sound-wise, eventually. Outdoor venues are never amazing, but there's a certain dignity in being able to experience music under the (admittedly mostly light polluted) sky...

    fevereiro 2013
  • just_corn

Oh, don't get me wrong - I swore blind when I saw the venue, the price and the distributor that there's no way in hell I was going. I've never seen Cave and that's basically the complete opposite of how I had always pictured it in my head. But then I thought about it, and if there's anyone I trust as a musician it's him, and I eventually decided to get behind it. Hearing the new album has definitely bolstered my confidence - I like the fragility of it, it's a nice contrast to the older albums. What will be your (hoped for)song of the night?

Guilty as charged! Seen them support High On Fire in the Espy last year and thought they were pretty good but never followed them up. Which album do you recommend?

  • just_corn

You guys think you can just come over here and bleed Melbourne dry of all its gigs...it's a beautiful thing! ;) PS. Don't listen to him, he's evil.

  • just_corn

Yeah, they're playing together - I don't know too much about Mick Harvey but adore JP. Read somewhere recently that Hungry Ghosts will tour mid-year. I'd just about sell my soul to see them live. Still can't believe Swans and Godspeed are playing on the same night...talk about the great divide! Really, Lanegan was the only person who could've pulled off those Ding Dong gigs - the place was still pretty raw and there were way too many people let in. The first night I had a guy nearly knock me out with a ladder and climb up into the ceiling above my head in an attempt to fix the sound, haha. Won't forget that one in a hurry! But yes, he's always equally, if not more, captivating than the last time I saw him. My life has no purpose without a Lanegan date in my diary!!

I know what you mean, this time of year is so crazy! Well, that and I have absolutely no self control (eg: Deciding not to see Deftones in an attempt to gain some financial ground but changing my mind after both Melb shows sold out, so now paying 4 x's more to see them in Adelaide). I'm really looking forward to Einstürzende Neubauten (with JP Shilo supporting!). Yes, Mr Lanegan...swoon. I can't believe I've been fortunate enough to see him so many times in the 18 months since I've been back home - with Isobel, Mark Lanegan Band and a couple of solo shows...still, it's never enough! ;)

I've really only started listening to them "properly" in anticipation for this tour, was a bit of a casual fan before that but I thought it'd be a great gig to see so I bought a ticket anyway. Wasn't let down! Thought some certain songs could have been played that weren't, but with a nearly two-and-a-half hour show there's really no reason to complain :)

Give the album "Music Has the Right to Children" a shot, I highly recommend it. Search 'Telephasic Workshop' on youtube for a look at what you're in for. You mean the soundtrack to the movie?

Ta for the link, definitely looking into more of his stuff in the near future. Yeah, it was a good first year for Harvest, and Portishead's tough to beat, I'm definitely interested to see where it goes next. I'm hoping they do the extraordinary: get Boards of Canada.

  • MikeInchNails

Yeah, this is my fourth year attending, the lineup isn't as exciting as it was last year, but it's still good. I've seen Manson before, he's starting to lose it though. This is the first time I'm not seeing a headlining band though, unless Machine Head count, so I can see your point there. I'm looking forward to seeing what Harvest has to offer this year, same goes for Splendour, though I can't go to that, it always brings some good sideshows to Melbourne. Yeah, I didn't have the money in time, sold out before I could get in, which is a mighty fine shame. Atleast I get to catch them at Soundwave, though. It's also frustrating because Mastodon wrap up ten minutes after Kvelertak start, and I really wanted to catch their whole set. I'm always on the look out for good ambient! I've got Burial's 'Untrue' album, absolutely love it, I'll have to grab this new EP then.
