Just last Sunday. I set it up and added all the information, and a friend and I are doing the posting. Thanks!

So it looks like this is going to be a triple post again (sorry!) but I just noticed you like White Lies. Try listening to Speak To No End by City Calm Down. (Really great anthemic track, IMO.) This track in particular is also kind of reminiscent of The Horrors (Skying-era), who themselves are somewhat reminiscent of The Psychedelic Furs, another great 80s band.

About Violens--I discovered them around the time of the release of True, but through tracks from Amoral. They were pretty new to me then--loved them in that first album (quite similar to Jorge Elbrecht's other band, Lansing-Dreiden)--but they had a noticeable shift in sound with the newer album and I didn't adjust to it well, nor did I really give it a chance to grow on me. But since it's been at least a year now it's probably time I give it another listen. : )

Hm... Twin Shadow, Grum, Kavinsky, M83, Chairlift, Tesla Boy, Selebrities, Mystery Jets... Well, judging your taste from a great playlist like that, how about twenty more? (Okay lol, maybe I shouldn't submit you to that... I recommended a few of those tracks in particular because I discovered them around the same time as Ice Choir, back when I was listening to them a LOT, and they seemed to go well together in playlists.) Bit of a curator of modern glimmerings of 80s-styled pop and new wave where I can find it--I also belong to a group called Retro Electro, devoted purely to this kind thing, maybe check it out!

And since you like Tears for Fears, you might also be interested in two current bands I think take a lot of props from them, Future Unlimited and Lovelife (Ally Young is former member of Mirrors). Golden, When It Calls, Love Rush, and Midnight Swimming… All great tracks, IMO. (Sorry for the wall of posts)

Seeing as you like Ice Choir, you might like Acid Reign by Violens (or anything from their 2010 album, AmoralIt Couldn’t Be Perceived and Are You Still in the Illusion? are good also), Dancing Girl by Electro Spectre, Twin Peaks by Hits, Animalia by Voltaire Twins, Runaways by Mirror Kisses, and Crash by Low Tide Theory, to name some.

Oh wow, it’s amazing that you’ve met Curt’s brother! I’ve never been to Europe so I have to be a bit jealous of that, too. (lol) And Ice Choir… Love them. I was constantly playing The Ice Choir and Two Rings last summer, around the time of the release of their debut album. They have a sort of winter-y vibe, so it was kind of an odd thing to be playing in the summer (which really just made it all the more special!)

I have to agree with you there. I could have sworn there was talk about a new Tears for Fears album at least as far back as July or August. Guess the big announcement just made it official? Awesome charts, btw. ; )

THOSE WERE MY FAVORITE TRACKS TOO. I hope you get to make the music video, that'd be amazing! I've never heard of Esben and the Witch, but I'll check them out! Sounds really interesting.

Oh man, thanks so much for this! Listened to the beginning of the first track and really loved it. Anything with shoegazey guitar and swing drumming is an instant sell to me, I've been looking for some inspiration like that for my own songwriting.

Whoooa, that must have been awesome! Liverpool seems like a great place to visit, if I ever make it across the pond some day it's definitely on my "musical places to see" list (I'd like to waltz around Oxford and Abingdon and see if I can catch any Radiohead history too, but I somehow doubt those places are as prominent as the Beatles', haha). As for the Beatless album, it was actually released in July, I believe! I haven't heard much beyond a minute or two from it but I know it's out there, several of my friends have heard it. I don't think there's anywhere you can officially buy it digitally, but of course there are...other places.

I read in various interviews that The Ice Choir was one of the (actually, I think it was THE) first song Kurt wrote while The Depreciation Guild was still together that ended up being used for the project; I'm about 99% sure that the project's name actually comes from the song title, and not vice-versa. And I know in another interview I read that he said he started Ice Choir because those early songs weren't fitting in stylistically with The Depreciation Guild, so I assume he was at least trying it out as a Depreciation Guild song first. That kind of explains why the guitar is so prominent in the intro as opposed to the other songs on Afar.

Also, have you seen Meeks' "BEATLESS" Beatles cover album? I don't know about you but I'm a huge Beatles fan, and I listened to the first 30 seconds of that sampler video and was so impressed that I went and ordered a CD copy online. That's just such a brilliant concept, I'm hoping once the CD arrives that it'll be as well-executed as the little bit I heard!

I emailed Painted In, and much to my surprise, it's all the work of one GUY. Even the vocals. He sure had me fooled. He didn't give me his name, but based on my Bandcamp receipt, I believe it's Daniel Strauss. He said he's working on an LP but doesn't know when it will be finished, man I hope it'll be soon because I am just FLOORED by how good it is (also I hope he finishes that Dream About Me cover because I honestly think it could be better than the original).

I haven't mailed him yet but when I do I'll be sure to let you know what happens! University's going pretty decently so far, it's a bit busy and whatnot but I'm mostly having fun. I come bringing some FANTASTIC news, though—CHECK THIS GUY OUT! He said he's a solo musician from Canada and... just LISTEN to it, man! And check THIS out! And THIS, holy cow! If you like what you hear (and I think you will), you can download a few songs from his SoundCloud in high quality right here.
