Sobre mim
Underemployed Partially Disabled Multiethnic Jewish Applied Mathematician / Electrical Engineer living in Chicago. The unofficial name for this page is "Bridge to Dystopia". The books I'll be writing about, when I do reviews of novels on this account, are set in the period between the end of World War Two to the inauguration of Ronald Reagan - what some might call "the Modern era", even though it ended over 28 years ago at the time of this writing, this being the "Postmodern Era". Thus the name - I view that era, for all of its creativity and occasional promise, as having been the beginning of a disaster that we are now seeing unfold.
The North African cultural elements you see on this blog are fitting because
1. Personal enjoyment.
2. The Maghreb, as it holds onto its cultural traditions, provides an excellent rebuttal to the claim that "there is only one modernity", one of the defining notions of the so-called "modernism" which I disagree with the most strongly.
3. One of the first people to have friended me here, simbad38, seems to have dedicated his presence here to a celebration of his culture, which I think is a wonderful thing to do. Call this a show of support.
4. Oh, and I'm roughly half Sephardic.
The 60s music I've mention can be found on another profile of mine on Last.fm, for reasons explained there, relating to the Last.fm algorithm.
