In case anyone should notice I'm scrobbling from 'Anything Legal Considered'… and that the device links to here… I'll explain.
ALC is a personal project to build a working, scrobbling music player, whose back-end is a bash script that wherever possible uses bash built-in commands / GNU/Linux core-utils pograms. The first working version was knocked up in under a week, although I drew heavily on experience gained writing my previous player. The latter used the perl script lfmCMD as the front-end of the scrobbler, but ALC uses bash to create API requests and wget to talk to last.fm. I had to write a small C program to do the equivalent of Javascript's uriencode… I've never worked how to do this in bash :(
Anyway, it's still a work-in-progress, even yet lacking some features of my old player (like auto-editing of timestamps of scrobbles in danger of missing the 14 day cut-off).
Oh, and if you're wondering about the name, I started naming my projects after Culture ships in the novels by the late Iain M Banks. Coming soon,.. Just The Washing Instruction Chip In Life's Rich Tapestry :)
