Do., 2. Jul. – Roskilde Festival Roskilde Website says:

Hottest festival in 33 years.

Each year, the audience speculate in weather statistics with the ever relevant question – will Roskilde be sunny or rainy? It is not say whether it is due to climate changes or other conditions, but weather conditions at Roskilde Festival tend to be quite extreme.
So when it gets hot, it gets very hot. The sun actually warmed up the place in such as degree that '09 turned out to be the hottest Roskilde in 33 years.

Audience came along… eventually

It was almost as if the audience kept an eye on the weather forecasts before making up their mind to go or not. In any case, the ticket sale stats showed themselves from a somewhat unpredictable side, and it was difficult to tell how large an audience to expect this year.

When the festival was about to begin, rumours said that about 60,000 of 75,000 tickets were sold. However, it turned out that many more people wanted to take part in the festival. 67,000 all-week tickets were sold, and a new initiative – one-day tickets – were sold to over 12,000 people on top of this. Despite a non-sold-out festival, accounts showed a nice profit.

Music and entertainment

This year's music programme was full of memorable concert experiences.

Trentemøller played for over 50,000 people on Orange Stage, and one critic called it ”Trentemøller's total triumph”. A new highlight in the history of Orange Stage. Faith No More, Slipknot and Coldplay also delivered excellent concert experiences.

”We love you, Roskilde,” said Pet Shop Boys. The review in Roskilde Festival's newspaper Orange Press said "Damn great!" and gave five stars.

These are the artists i managed to see full gigs of: Social Distortion (festival opener on Odeon, but not that good anymore...), Lily Allen (queen of pop, big audience!), Mew (fantastic, brilliant, incredible, breathtaking gig), Pet Shop Boys (ok that was the last time for me to see the old men of pop, it was ok, fine show, Neil was nice as ever, but enough is enough), Oasis (yes, that was one of the last gigs they played, and it was fucking brilliant - with a tear in my eyes, don't look back in anger, I heard you say...); Grace Jones (she did the coolest gig in Roskilde 2009, grande dame with a great charisma), The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart (great band!!), Labrassbanda (party time in the night, brass punk funk, we danced and sweated like animals, big success!!), Faith No More (yes, history was made, at least we saw them!!) , Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (Nick was in such a good mood and condition, spitting his lyrics out, living it to the core, this gig was the best I've ever seen from him) , Peter Doherty (incredible, one man with his guitar, the audience at Odeon was great, very very good gig, Pete was always tryin to play Billie Jean, because of Jacko's dead, but he always failed ;-) , White Lies (never seen such a sensational new band - "your face got a hold on me" is one of the best songs in the last years), Madness (what an overwhelming gig on orange stage, they had so much fun, and we had, too - we laughed and danced, the sun was shining, they played ALL those hits from way back in time, to sing and dance to, it was a perfect gig), I’m From Barcelona (my favourite band played parallel to Yeah Yeah Yeahs, so there were not too many people there, but anyway: IFB made the expected musical experience, with a big family on stage and a big family as the audience, Emanuel Lundgren is a hell of a entertainer, and we all sang along with Treehouse! Remarkable gig! at the end even the security guards clapped their hands, and the band was sitting at the edge of the stage, and waving bye-bye, but audience wouldn't let them go - highlight! Here is an interview with Emanuel, which I was able to do before the show - it's in german.... :http://www.autona.de/interviews/interviews/0908/interview-mit-emmanuel-lundgren-von-i-m-from-barcelona-auf-autona-com.html
- Coldplay: the convinced me absolutely as an incredible live band. first I thought of not to see them, cause I knew them, but thank God I was there: festivals last gig on sunday, special atmosphere, and they were really brilliant. Chris Martin is a good man. And he made those remarkable hit songs, that are becoming their real greatness during a gig like it happened in Roskilde 2009.
One of the best Roskilde festival ever, I suppose.
