Yes to Japandroids. Sloppy chords and balls to the proverbial walls.

And out of that group it's the Japandroids for the win. And here's why I'm trying to sell Kwok on them. Listening to that band brings me back to 1995-1997 and basement shows before everyone knew what hardcore was and kids were just out there sweating and fucking it up. Their musical skills aren't great - it's three chord at best, but it's earnest and its kids rocking out.

I'm going to try again with the music recommendation: try Swan Lake http://foxyurl.com/pHA - it's the lead singer from Wolf Parade, Dan Bejar from New Pornographers and Destroyer and some other Canadian guy. It almost sounds like a compilation because the 3 guys alternate vocals throughout the album and I wasn't feeling it at first but after a couple listens I'm sold. Also there's Cymbals Eat Guitars http://foxyurl.com/pHz who I've read described as Cap'n Jazz but this seems more melodic somewhere in between Cap'n Jazz and No Age. Also Japandroids who I've tried to sell Kwok on http://foxyurl.com/pHu Bill Callahan (formerly Smog) http://foxyurl.com/pHv Future of the Left (ex-McLusky) http://foxyurl.com/pHt these are all pretty moot if you read the Onion AV club. I don't stray too far from that as my guru of all music knowledge. but they are all okay and not straight rock.

Try out We Were Promised Jetpacks. Nothing fancy, a straight-up rock band out of Scotland in the vein of Frightened Rabbit. Nothing too difficult or challenging but a nice driving sound and mindless fun. Think a less pretentious Killers on "When You Were Young". Nice music for a hot-ass drive from work to home. http://www.last.fm/music/We+Were+Promised+Jetpacks/+videos/+1-G5ZhBAylbN4
