I'm liking our compatibility now, it used to be Low. I have a few albums on the way that I'm sure will make it even higher. :)

Saw your post on the Battles page wanting a new album (as do I!). In the meantime, I strongly recommend you check out Tyondai Braxton's new(ish) solo album, Central Market. It is absolutely amazing!

no, he got accepted then left the group. Its just too easy for people to judge based on whether they like some bands or not. Thats not the point: it should be about variety, and statistics (how much you listen, how much you participate in last.fm, etc.)

looks like that admission thread scared/pissed off your friend. Thats too bad, but it makes sense: people are very protective of their music, and don't care to see it nitpicked. Well, he's welcome to come back again if he likes.

what did i think of the new ephel duath you ask? It was ok. Not as dynamic or as rounded as their previous lineup/album, imo. It wasn't bad, but not particularly rememberable either. Not very many songs stand out on "through my dog's eyes." A lot of the tracks sound too similar to one another. Still, there were a few I did enjoy, and the band's still going strong, and making creative, dissonant and interesting music, so for that, I applaud them.

The Linkin Park got scrobbled from my sisters plays in her library but I'm denying having any in my library. I'd way rather of many artists above Linkin Park. I just have to get more plays in to balance them out.

Sobre mim

I listen to better music than you.

LOL of the Week:

"News flash, popular albums are popular because THEY ARE THE BAND'S BEST."

"Most people really don't know how to listen to music."

Info:

Hi, my names Mike and I like music and like to debate & research it to a degree. I'm a bit more laid back than I used to be, so you won't get too many "your wrong and I'm right" or "your music sucks, go to hell" out of me anymore. I like a lot of music, I'm rebuilding my last.fm library. It'll be a better representative in time. Oh yeah I'm an American Libertarian and a Agnostic if you want to know bullshit like that.

I'm also a huge supporter of freedom of expression and speach even on "private websites" as moderators on more than here have used as an argument to stop negative criticism and opinions in general. I think it's terrible, but I guess it doesn't effect me as much as it used to. I don't troll/flame/gripe on shoutboxes too often anymore, so that could be why. But I try to keep in touch with current... uh... last.fm events? Support freedoms, but don't get banned guys.

But I will listen to anything from jangly power pop to rough rock music to unconventional noise. I'm pretty open-minded and I'm just a silly dolt who likes music and conversation. Why don't you drop me a message? Hell, drop me a line offsite if you want. S'cool.

Opinions on Music:

I like lots of stuff, but here's two categories of what I like (my favorites):

Alternative & Indie: A ongoing scene since The Velvet Underground started making music, this scene of music is definitely one of my top favorites. From the Pixies to Modest Mouse to R.E.M to Joy Division. I like it, a lot. This includes shoegaze, post-punk, etc.

Experimental Music: A bit vague; but everything from avant-garde to musicial concrete. I can appreciate at some level. Multi-layering psychedelic noise rock like the Butthole Surfers places first in favorites. But I also like stuff like Fantomas, The Boredoms, H3llb3nt... all great stuff.

Hip-Hop: Don't get me started on hippity hop, I love it. From Atmosphere to K-OS to DJ Shadow to Jazz Liberatorz... even some Black Eyed Peas. Can't stand Eminem or crunk though, but is that a surprise?

Latin Fusion: One part jazz, another part spanish flamenco and maybe a little pop in there. This music has been growing on me for a long time. I love flamenco guitar and I like jazz fusion, so this should be a no brainer. Favorites include Canteca de Macao and Ojos de Brujo.

Noise: I'm pretty much a newbie on this but I appreciate Merzbow and a few others so far. I love the textures and layers put into this genre.

Pop-Punk: No, blink182 is NOT punk. Stop embarrassing yourself. From the Ramones to Screeching Weasel and Teenage Bottlerocket. I love this shit. Energetic, Poppy and damn good. Ben Weasel is the king.

Post-Hardcore: And I do NOT mean pretty boy scenester trash post-hardcore, I mean raw real hardcore that pushed the limits with experimentation. I love that. The Jesus Lizard, Refused, Funeral Diner, so forth. Lovelovelove.

Power Metal: There is a lot of different bands in this subgenre. I'm more partial to the speed-edged ones like Axenstar, Hibria, Stormwarrior and the like. Sometimes the overdriven synths get annoying, y'know?

Progressive Metal: I like this subgenre when it's pushing envelopes and trying to be creative and artistic. But sometimes I don't mind the lesser bands. I love Mechanical Poet, Orphaned Land, Pain of Salvation, etc. Even some Dream Theater.

Rockabilly: From Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Chubby Checker to The Sonics, The Trashmen and The Ventures. I like this stuff. Stray Cats are great, too. I don't listen to it clearly enough though so maybe I should work on that...

Soul: From the Temptations to Wayne Brady.... yeah, I like this. Whether it's a progressive urban soul record (Janelle Monae) or a bit traditional soul one (The Four Tops), I really can dig this. This is one of the genres I grew up with and I will never turn it down.

As for the other genres not listed (outside of grindcore/goregrind) I don't dislike anything and am always open to suggestions. A open mind is a healthy mind. If you don't believe this then you can go away.
