Best gig of my life!

Wed 14 Mar – The Arcade Fire, Patrick Wolf

From My Blog @ www.StrangeGlue.com

Arcade Fire launched into the first of four dates at London’s Brixton Academy last night as they wowed the crowd with a barnstorming set.

Supported by Patrick Wolf, this was the hottest gig in town. Tickets crossed hands for hundreds of pounds outside the venue, as celebrities and fans alike, gathered to see Montreal’s finest.

The set had a colourful montage dedicated to the front cover of newly released album ‘Neon Bible’, and this set the tone, as the eight piece came out to play predominantly tracks from their latest release.

But the crowd and Win Butler too, came alive when they played songs from 2005’s ‘Funeral’. The frontman jumping into the crowd during ‘Rebellion ’, while singing the first verse.

The set climaxed with a stunning execution of ‘Intervention’, but the band werent finished there as they came out to play ‘(Antichrist Television Blues)’ and the now familiar set closer ‘Wake Up’, to bring an incredible night to an end.

The crowd pleaded for more. Even as the band departed and the lights came on, the crowd burst out into a spontaneous sing-along of ‘Wake Up’ attempting to spur the band onto stage one last time.

Alas, Arcade Fire were not to come out again that night, but will so tonight and the next two (15, 16th and 17th March), as they continue their series of gigs at Brixton.
